Oh yeah that's just my real world assumption. 😀

Constant influx of dissolved salts in water then the water evaporates leading to a very concentrated body of water. Like the dead Sea 😀

I assumed they'd be salty and bitter. Like hate and tears. 😀

Which i suppose makes them very important strategically due to the need for salt.

Magicicada Tarot

Mixed media piece celebrating periodical cicadas, Brood XIII, and cycles of transformation.

Death (XIII) can be interpreted as representing change and transformation, much as these cicadas emerge, transform, and fuel the cycle of life.

Limited edition prints available on my shop, hand embellished with gold paint.

P.S. I've added shipping to Canada!

    RPG tip: Include interactive monuments in bigger battles.

    Homebrewandhacking ,

    @enfors

    A wild guess would include:

    There are ambient hazards, floor is slime/lava/difficult terrain
    There are bits you can break with AoE
    There are bits you can use an action to make something cool happen, like sliding some floor around
    There are effects which include things happening on an initiative count, like an angel flies in and smites whomever did the most damage last turn.

    Those are just my guesses. 😀

    There are only ~40 million Black people in the US. Population similar to Lagos state in Nigeria (the tiny red part).

    There are ~250 million US white folk (~220 non-Hispanic white + ~30 million Hispanic white).

    So Biden's "missing" 10% of Black men, is fewer than 2 million. Or less than 1% of white US population.🤡

    White voters don't face the massive systemic voter suppression that Black voters do. So increasing white dem turnout is much easier.

    Dear @bookstodon

    I would like recommendations for books where the main character is a mild villain dealing with much worse villains and is telling the story as they go. Fantasy and Scifi are always comforting genres but I venture out for the right books.

    I would also like books where men and women are doing things and are friends without a romance being shoe-horned in. But I concede I might as well be asking for a pony at this point.

    Thanks for any help and or boosts!

    I have finished reading Chapterhouse Dune. My fools errand is finished. It’s not good, and of course ends with loose ends.

    I think my personal recommendation is reading the first two books. Although just one or even zero are solid choices. Three is alright, except it’s a trap if it makes you curious and want to read more.

    I’m tempted to revisit Heinlein who I haven’t read in at least twenty years, but I’m also afraid he’ll be disappointing.

    #Reading #SciFi #Dune #ChapterhouseDune

    Homebrewandhacking ,
    @Homebrewandhacking@mastodon.ie avatar

    @deinol

    Heinlein was a deeply surprising author. "I will fear no evil" might be quite the surprise read through modern eyes.

    There's a lot of his books which do not stand the test of time but the ones that do are bangers. Moon is a... has some nice rep for infertile women and handles it so sensitively, I didn't realise what enormous assholes people were about them in general. (Looking at you Rebecca Kuang).

    Homebrewandhacking ,
    @Homebrewandhacking@mastodon.ie avatar

    @deinol

    And Starship Troopers is an unwinking parody.

    Those who haven't read it or just given it a trivial read miss:

    1. Villain POV at the start.
    2. Women are the best at doing maths
    3. Filipino hero
    4. Buenos Aires being a home for Nazis post WW2.
    5. Fascists are bad at fighting wars hence the "everybody fights" and logistics being an extra duty as opposed to a specialisation.

    Just things off the top of my head which it would be unusual to include in a celebration of fascism. IMO.

    Homebrewandhacking ,
    @Homebrewandhacking@mastodon.ie avatar

    @deinol

    Honestly I wouldn't have given it so much thought if people would just stop saying ridiculous things about Heinlein based off it. 😉

    When I try to describe #HTTRPG #AdventureDesign to a designer unaccustomed to it, the Half-Dozen Rule often fills their eyes with horror.

    Them: I need to design prep for SIX approaches?
    Me: Twelve. Sorry about the name.
    Them: [sweating] Uhh ... Violence and ... Convincing? Um ...

    But once you have some tools, it's not hard to hit that tiny minimum. Recall some of the tools:

    • Problems with problems
    • Causal Chaining
    • Fuel-Sourcing
    • People Up
    • Five Root Forms

    Try it. It's (really) fun. 😊

    @SJohnRoss

    So, I assume you've got a blog where you've got all the individual ideas of High Trust Gaming.

    Do you have a sort of index of these ideas with a suggested reading order so that I can follow them and experiment with running it?

    Homebrewandhacking ,
    @Homebrewandhacking@mastodon.ie avatar

    @SJohnRoss

    I mean sure. That's been obvious from the context of many of the statements.

    I guess I'm looking for a reading order.

    A syllabus perhaps. 😀

    Homebrewandhacking ,
    @Homebrewandhacking@mastodon.ie avatar

    @SJohnRoss

    Well if you think that you wrote it in order and that's what I need to read than that's grand.

    I'm intrigued because you talk a lot about HTTG so I assumed that you wanted people to read it.

    That's what I'm doing with my blog. I write the bits out and, at some point, I'll focus them and probably knock up an index of things I think people should know.

    If you've already done that then that's grand.

    Homebrewandhacking ,
    @Homebrewandhacking@mastodon.ie avatar

    @SJohnRoss

    Oh OK. Well if I won't understand it then that's fair enough. I thought you were talking about how to do it from a "wanting people to understand it" point of view.

    But if I'm not your intended audience, then that's fair enough. 😀 I am interested in the concepts evoked by "High Trust Trad" but most of what I've read just sounds like good practice.

    I'm relatively sure I'm a trad GM but honestly the discourse on theory is off-putting to say the least. 😀

    Homebrewandhacking ,
    @Homebrewandhacking@mastodon.ie avatar

    @SJohnRoss

    Good theory can be a guide if it helps us run better games but I think I favour more reflective practice.

    A good game should have mechanics that support it and it was only by reflecting on the mechanics and what they really meant that I came to some interesting conclusions.

    Different analytical tools can also help, e.g. NODES or even lessons taken from MMORPGS.

    Good models are only models but things can be learnt from them.

    As I say, the discourse not necessarily theory.

    Homebrewandhacking ,
    @Homebrewandhacking@mastodon.ie avatar

    @SJohnRoss

    Sure, so you're not explaining the theory of HTT gaming then? Just putting a description of it?

    Fair enough. The misapprehension is mine alone.

    Bit of UBI goodness. The only reason it's not implemented is because if people weren't stuck in underpaid jobs where corporations don't pay a living wage and welfare is used then they might ask questions.

    And last time that happened was the summer of 2020 which is why theyve been desperate to "return to normal".
