Oh fuck that noise! (No pun intended.)

No grille on my speaker? No purchase on my end!

Not OP, but I would imagine most likely the US, though I admit that is by no means a certainty.

Wait, heart attacks can result in blood loss?

The most interesting part to me is watching the color fade from their intestines. It’s actually very fast from pink to gray.

That's due to oxygen deprivation, right?

Thanks for the education. :)

So, yeah, the US.

I like to think I am. I used to be a piece of shit, and I've worked really hard over the last 9 years to become a better person. I don't always succeed, as the old demons like to pop their heads out every now and again, but I do put forth great effort most times.

Occasionally make movie posters for YouTube videos I download, primarily using low-tech means like cropping, layering, etc.

Mainly because I don't know how to do the more advanced stuff, but I find it kind of fun though to try to do similar levels of quality with lower-tech tools. Kind of like coding challenges but with Paint.NET. Lol. (BTW, that's not a link. Lol.)

EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted ,

I actually didn't! Do you have the link for it!

Thanks! I'll watch that tonight after I get off work!

Oh.

I appreciate that. :)

Modern corporations are a damned plague. Most of these fuckers would destroy our whole cultural heritage in a heartbeat if it meant making a profit.

Yes, corporations exist to make profit, but come on, there are limits.

In the spring or summer:

  • Partly cloudy
  • Mild breeze
  • 70 °F (21 °C),

In the fall:

  • Partly cloudy
  • No breeze
  • 50 °F (10 °C)

In the winter:

  • Clear skies
  • No breeze
  • 30 °F (–1 °C)

I've got this idea baking because I saw a guy post that it's been as many year from 1971 to 2024 as it was from 1971 to 1918. How do the global wars compare in the two periods?

It occurs to me that this last 1/2 century or so has been globally pretty peaceful. And I wondered if it might even be one of the MOST peaceful 50 years we've had....

No one wants to be the first to get into sustained conventional, symmetrical warfare with nukes on both sides.

Not to mention no one wants to be the one to start a nuclear exchange, as that would effectively wipe out both participants nations wholeheartedly, and the populations that remains would inherit a wasteland.

To this day, that is one of my favorite fictional quotes of all time. It's something that for years every now and again I have to remind myself of, since our modern world focuses so extremely on success in all ways at all costs.

It's kinda scary actually...

EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted ,
@EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

That's a hard one. I too know from experience and am still working on it.

Any dialogue instance whatsoever between Aveline and Isabella in Dragon Age II. Here's one of my (many) favorites:

Aveline: You're right.

Isabela: About?

Aveline: About knowing who you are.

Aveline: I'm the captain of the guard. I'm loyal, strong, and I don't look too bad naked.

Isabela: Exactly. And if I called you a mannish, awkward, ball-crushing do-gooder, you'd say...?

Aveline: Shut up, whore.

Isabela: That's my girl.

Dr

astrology channel

One of these things does not add up...

EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted ,
@EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Wait, what term? I wasn't saying you made a mistake; I was pointing out the ridiculousness of someone being a doctor but dealing in such unscientific nonsense as astrology.

Edit: Or, wait, did you actually make a typo and it was supposed to be "astronomy"? If so, I didn't even realize. xD

Hey no worries. Sorry that I came across as correcting you. x3

EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted ,

Fair enough, I suppose.

Any suggestions for cheap but decent laptops for coding?

I'm currently learning how to code (currently Python, then maybe JavaScript), but I'm not always around my desktop, and learning on my phone is not always an option (also, it can be quite cumbersome at times). Therefore, I'm looking into purchasing a laptop just for learning how to code and stuff....

God that sounds SO expensive (then again, maybe you don't live in the US come to think of it).

I went to the ER for a simple second-degree burn on my hand. All they gave me was a bandaged-up hand, some ointment, and a crisp high-five (on my other hand).

Cost me $600 after insurance. And the sad part is I have decent insurance for my area.

EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted ,

Yeah, that's disgusting how you were treated (or, rather, not treated, I suppose).

Insurance is a fucking scam in the US, I tell you what.

You don't have to go every week necessarily, though for some people that might be beneficial. I personally only see my therapist for 1 hour every month. Therefore, it only costs me 80 USD (≈74 EUR) per month.

cries in rural town in Michigan

EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted ,
@EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

FUCK yes, at least if you live in a rural town. I live in a small farming town of 5 000 people. There is ONE grocery store here. Once a week, I go on errands (appointments, shopping, etc.) and I have to travel 25–30 minutes, or about 15 miles. And that's driving. There's no bus line, no train line, so if I wanted to walk, it'd take about 6 hours to walk.

EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted , (edited )
@EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

There are other places to buy groceries: for example, there's a small carryout down the street and a Dollar General as well. But those aren't really "grocery stores" nor are they big stores. There are also a smattering of small businesses of course.

There also might be one or two in nearby small towns (which are still like 10–15 min drive away even then).

But for a good number of tasks, you still have to go into town, so my point still stands.

EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted ,
@EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

As someone who has worked for Family Dollar (which is a part of the same industry ("discount variety store")), I absolutely hate that industry with a passion and refuse to shop at any store like Dollar General, Family Dollar, and Dollar Tree, etc. That whole industry is even more predatory towards employees than even regular retail stores are. That's how they get the items so cheap in the first place—aside from supply chain injustices (read: slavery, same as most other industries), it comes out of the workers, both in pay and workload.

Anyway, I didn't initially mean to go off on this spiel, so I'm sorry about that, and in any case my original point is still valid, I feel.

EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted ,
@EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

It's cool. You kinda don't know until you work there.
