EDIT: dbzer0 had nothing to do with this ban, it was done by a Lemmy.World admin.

I updated my post after another user stated that it wasn't lemmy.world admins that performed the ban but the db0 team that did. I can't say with certainty that's actually the case since the modlog is pretty opaque and I don't have full knowledge of how [federated] actions are propagated & displayed.

I (incorrectly?) assumed since those communities had existed for so long on the dbzer0 instance they had at least tacit approval from the admins there and were in communication with them enough that a full ban wouldn't occur -- when I saw the removal in the modlog I didn't even consider that possibility.

Sorry for kicking up drama here if the Lemmy.World team had no part in this :(

If you weren't already aware, they also have a bunch of singles/covers that AFAIK haven't been released on compilations. I thought they were posted on their SoundCloud page in the past but they don't seem to be there now, so they might only be on YouTube.
e.g.

  • Metallica - Master of Puppets
  • Queen - We Will Rock You
  • Daft Punk - Around the World
  • Rolling Stones - Paint it Black
  • Gremlins theme, Holiday Road, Carol of the Bells

Not the point of the video at all but I didn't see any clips from The Boat That Rocked (2009) (Pirate Radio in the US) and just wanted to give a shout-out for the film. I wouldn't say it was a particularly special role or performance from P.S.H. but I just never see that movie mentioned and it initially flew under the radar for me.

I hate coming across gangstalking people and groups online because it's just sad to see as an outsider and invokes strong feelings of wanting to be helpful but being unable to. Like you said, they reinforce each other in their bubbles so there's no way to get a message through that their problem isn't really what they think it is and they need professional help. And short of somehow magically only allowing helpful people to interact with those thinking they're being gangstalked (technical and logistical impossibility) it becomes another chance for trolls or other sufferers to just encourage more conspiratorial and paranoid thinking.

Petah explain the joke ( lemmy.today )

A community where you can get your jokes, memes, reference etc explained by the one and only petah. I intially created this because i was not getting a lot of things and wabted a community for things like that on lemmy like on reddit but everyone should join because it will only work then.

Meditations on Moloch

[...]
Moloch is introduced as the answer to a question – C. S. Lewis’ question in Hierarchy Of Philosophers – what does it? Earth could be fair, and all men glad and wise. Instead we have prisons, smokestacks, asylums. What sphinx of cement and aluminum breaks open their skulls and eats up their imagination?

And Ginsberg answers: Moloch does it.

There’s a passage in the Principia Discordia where Malaclypse complains to the Goddess about the evils of human society. “Everyone is hurting each other, the planet is rampant with injustices, whole societies plunder groups of their own people, mothers imprison sons, children perish while brothers war.”

The Goddess answers: “What is the matter with that, if it’s what you want to do?”

Malaclypse: “But nobody wants it! Everybody hates it!”

Goddess: “Oh. Well, then stop.”

The implicit question is – if everyone hates the current system, who perpetuates it? And Ginsberg answers: “Moloch”. It’s powerful not because it’s correct – nobody literally thinks an ancient Carthaginian demon causes everything – but because thinking of the system as an agent throws into relief the degree to which the system isn’t an agent.

I really like the group Dance with the Dead and they did a couple metal+synthwave covers of this song:
Dance with the Dead - I Got 5 On It (Feat. Brandon Saller of ATREYU) - [https://piped.video/watch?v=NX6mx8YXqnM]
Dance with the Dead - I Got 5 On It remix (feat. Nick Hipa and Cody Carpenter) - [https://piped.video/watch?v=QeJCpXSmATA]

Definitely less than credible - check out the footer links:

    • The disclaimer switches the domain name partway through
    • "Contact Us" page is just a gmail address
    • "About" isn't even in English

So far I've seen two other newly-created accounts linking to that domain today (@xmod [banned] and @xmod)

the only way to download it is with a premium subscription

This doesn't help you on a mobile device, but in case others weren't aware of its existence, there's a great open source tool for downloading from many/most websites:

It's not a universal truth that you can just choose to get a vaccination without making an appointment or needing to involve insurance etc.

In a hypothetical extreme scenario, imagine having to weigh the risks between getting the vaccine that will potentially save your life and unexpectedly getting an appointment reminder text/email or follow-up contact that alerts the controlling partner and they potentially end your life for the "transgression."

The vaccine being "cheap" is also not universal and if you aren't allowed personal discretionary spending anything >$0 isn't cheap enough.

I agree with your overall arguments and your position, just not the way you have portrayed it.

    It would be trivial
    she could have easily
getting vaccinated is simple, cheap, and as anonymous as you would like it to be
A shitty spouse has less control over this choice than the vast majority of choices in your life.

All reads like blaming the victim or not acknowledging that there can be barriers you possibly haven't even considered between a desire to act and an ability to. The goal absolutely should be about making personal decisions even in the face of adversity, but when you reduce it like it's just them being lazy, and not recognizing the full extent of their reality, it doesn't come across as empowering. Maybe decisions are also being made with consideration of their children and their needs which also affects the calculus in making otherwise personal choices.

Imagine a social media landscape where every piece of content is perfectly tagged

working tirelessly to make your online experience safer and more enjoyable

All of this feels a little disingenuous when it's not even mentioned that all this tagging and classifying would also make it much easier for training LLMs or tracking groups/individuals/movements.

Seems more economic than political to me, but also why such the strong reaction to an on-topic reply? As you even said yourself:

I don’t really care all that much about any particular issue. I enjoy copying the ideas suggested by others in the fediverse and transforming them into new issues, as many individuals do not take this initiative.

Your account has existed for all of 3 hours and you're trying to come off like a well-known fixture of the community whose opinions are above reproach. I'll also say it seems suspect how quickly detracting comments are earning downvotes but not replies in this post.

In short, I don't believe you, your post or its engagement, are sincere.

You might already be trying this, but whenever I encounter IVR systems I don't want to deal with I just repeatedly cycle through the following words:

    • Agent
    • Human
    • Operator

Usually at least one of those is treated as a trigger to forward to a normal queue. Then I usually get to deal with a human forced to do their best robot impression and strictly follow a workflow and response script.

I was hoping there was some law (or at least fear of a lawsuit) that kept that functionality around for accessibility reasons. I suppose with the PSTN phasing out the last of the analog bits they don't even worry about rotary phones anymore. Would still be nice to have the "Shibboleet" functionality...

We wanted to announce that we will be attempting to upgrade Lemmy.World to version 0.19.3 on Saturday.

I don't regularly deal with converting between timezones but I'm unable to figure out whether this upgrade is happening on Saturday or Sunday. My calendar shows March 3rd as being Sunday.

Thanks for clarifying! Hope the upgrade goes smoothly :)

From what I can find, it's actually the demo Christmas NiGHTS into Dreams... that did that. The full game also uses the system time for changes but not that specifically-

The A-Life system features an evolving music engine, allowing tempo, pitch, and melody to alter depending on the state of Nightopians within the level. The feature runs from the Sega Saturn's internal clock, which alters features in the A-Life system depending on the time.

EDIT: Not particularly exciting, but I found and took a picture of my copies - evidently the Christmas demo came from Blockbuster Video.

    Well said.

Principiis obsta et respice finem — 'Resist the beginnings' and 'Consider the end.'

This is a family air loom that I inherited from my mom. Oh, thank you, she's not dead, she lives in Jacksonville. I don't know if it's an original or a knockoff, I just want to know if it's worth anything. ( media.kbin.social )

Before mom moved to Jacksonville, when she was still... deep breath I'm sorry, this is hard. It feels like it was just last week. She used to....what was that, honey?...

Is "air loom" some meme that I'm too old or not hip enough to get or just a legit bone apple tea moment?
