Feel pretty sure the world is headed for a widespread war. WWIII. Seems almost inevitable given current trajectory. May or may not become nuclear, but the death and destruction will be on a huge scale.

This will be my last post. I am dropping the account and do not intend to adopt any social media account. Essentially, I have given up on humanity.

I will follow developments, but no longer see any benefit to posting my opinions or thoughts.

@breadandcircuses Sounds silly, but a couple of nights ago I had an overwhelming, for lack of a better word, premonition. It was unlike anything I have experienced previously. I was sober at the time. I assume it was just my subconscious analysis of everything I read about human affairs.

Ginni Thomas's texts to Mark Meadows proved that she was a Big Lie fanatic. She even believed the “Biden Crime Family” belonged in "Guantanamo” for “ballot fraud.” And her husband is supposed to be impartial when he rules on whether Trump engaged in insurrection? Give me a break!

@rbreich 14th needs to be applied broadly. The conspiracy was wide and deep. Guns were not used but it was still the first attempt which they hope to repeat with lessons learned. This has been and continues to be a . It's different, each war is. Not sure which way this goes.

Will this border standoff in Texas escalate into the type of crisis that takes an already volatile political situation to a whole different level? Maybe not. But it’s frighteningly easy to see how it might be a milestone in a series of events that leads to a really dark place.

The Texas Border Standoff Is an Acute Crisis with Terrifying Implications

Is this how America ends? Echoes of nullification crises and Civil War, and the dissolution of the Union.

@tzimmer_history The warnings about the dissolution of the Republic have been in the material I have been reading since at least the early 2000s. I remember in particular one reference to a Russian Academic's predictions which seem to have been prescient. (Long since forgotten his name.)

IMO, this has long been the plan of the far right , crowd that views Putin as a hero of the white race.

So let me get this straight. Gov. Abbott of TX says he’ll defy federal law because an “invasion” has happened at the border, but the GOP refuses to fix the border because that would hand Biden a political win? Have I got that right?

Alienated53 ,
@Alienated53@mastodon.online avatar

@rbreich This has been MO of GOP for decades. Obstruction for its own sake.

There’s something happening with the U.S. economy that I haven’t seen in my 50 years in politics. Watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2x7LFBz8U8&ab_channel=RobertReich

@rbreich A big part of how successful this attempt by to return to a system will be the Courts, and especially the . That and the DEMs that will side with the GOP in trying to scuttle reform. (Three just joined in House attempt to destroy SS.)

Are we watching a repeat of the asbestos crisis?

@ThomHartmann While Europe uses the “precautionary principle” that prevents chemicals from being introduced into the environment or food supply until they’re proven safe, here in the US we use Libertarianism: we only ban chemicals after they’ve been in use long enough to kill so many people that we realize they’re dangerous.

@tzimmer_history I agree with this assessment of MSM complicity. You probably make this pt elsewhere. The history of MSM complicity is also the history of the capitulation to the ideology of , et al. In this way the DEMs joined the push that turned media over to . Gone were controls on concentrated ownership. Gone was the "FairnessDoctrine". Gone was meaningful public financial support of PBS and NPR.

The tension between the state of Texas and the federal government over the border escalated on Thursday when the Texas National Guard seized control of Shelby Park in Eagle Pass, Texas, denying entry to federal authorities. https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/texas-national-guard-shelby-park-eagle-pass-border-patrol-1234945639/

@RollingStone Getting harder and harder not to recognize we are already in the middle of a second Civil War.

Well, that's not accurate. The first one never ended the Confederacy merely retrenched and bided its time. Eventually, the played into their hands with adoption of that is a close cousin of the belief system. Now the billionaires created are bankrolling the movement and its huge Ministry of Disinformation.

@breadandcircuses Over the next week or so we are projected to have what is now considered extreme cold. One day is expected to have a high of -10C (14F). As a child and even in the early 80s, temps of -30C (-22F) were expected frequently this time of year. Weeks hovering at 0F came along every few yrs. Frost down 3' had to be anticipated. Since I have been back here in 97, completely different winter. Cannot imagine what is in store over the next 50 yrs. (not that I will see it).

@breadandcircuses I think it is important to let the next generation know how much the world has changed in just the Boomer generation's lifetime. It is so easy for the subsequent generations to think this is all just normal.
