WordPress blogs can now be followed in the fediverse, including Mastodon
WordPress.com owner Automattic made a commitment to the fediverse with the acquisition of an ActivityPub plug-in that allows WordPress blogs to reach readers on other federated platforms.
it's often so complex to add #ActivityPub to an already existing platform (for example #WordPress ) and it gets even more complex if it is not built for social media 😱
For example
Deleting Users from the Fediverse, that still exist on the blog.
Delete the whole blog from the fediverse, but take temporary plugin deactivations/deletions into account.
Does anyone have experience #selfhosting it (not necessarily locally, but via a DIY hosting solution like #NearlyFreeSpeech)?
Alternatively, any recommendations for #microblogging solutions that integrate nicely with the #fediverse?
I’ve found #wordpress to be too cumbersome, and I don’t really want to pay subscription costs for micro.blog if there’s a comparable self-hosting alternative.
Mastodon hivemind... I'd appreciate some technical help. I've got a wordpress website and I used to be able to embed my Mastodon feed on it. This hasn't worked for about two months now. I asked for help here and got nothing, but I'm clearly not the only one with this problem:
Just a note saying how my #Fediverse experience has been made immeasurably richer for being able to take in and engage with carefully curated #Threads users, #BlueSky bridged users, #WordPress ActivityPub enabled blogs, Federated #Podcast episodes, #PixelFed photos, and Peertube videos. All from one Mastodon account. This works.
And I'm grateful for the moderation tools to mute, block and curate all of this, and the Mastodon lists to make them all digestable and not just info overload.
I don't mind customers cancelling their license for my #WordPress plugin, not even if they are not satisfied with the product any more but this cancellation reason made me a bit sad (it was for an art education site) ...
We're looking for a new Wordpress developer at CoffeeGeek. Global location isn't important, but your skills, reliability, discretion and availability are.
We are looking for someone who
has a deep and full understanding of the entire Wordpress infrastructure, back end, multi-site usage, and all the associated coding, css, custom theme work etc.
Has a good knowledge and understanding of Elementor Pro. We use Elementor Pro and several plug in packages on CoffeeGeek, and have need of some custom work within Elementor.
working, day to day knowledge and experience with Cpanel, PHP and all the normal server-side stuff that comes along with Wordpress and managing a busy website.
The usual "back end" knowledge an experience in website management, including CDNs, site security, back up, etc.
Some SEO experience, the more the better (especially staying on top of current trends
Some design experience. This isn't crucial, as we have a WP / Elementor designer separate from our WP Developer position. But you knowing some ins and outs of basic design is beneficial
VERY IMPORTANT: Good availability. I don't expect turnaround in an hour after I send a job request, but responses within 24hr, and normal availability for several hours per week for maintenance / bug chasing (and also larger blocks of time for bigger projects) is expected and required.
VERY IMPORTANT: you have the ability and desire to make sure all the work you do for us is fully tested and bug checked before signing off on the work. We do have a dev server to test things on, but we will rely on you to deliver finished, generally bug free work.
Ideally, you are creative on the technical side, are good at hunting down bugs, innovative with fixes, and know how to get the most out of a Wordpress environment.
you don't have to love coffee, but it would not hurt your application process! :)
I am willing to pay a monthly retainer plus a preferred hourly rate (billed once a month / when tasks are completed and signed off) or a slightly higher straight hourly rate (no retainer) for your work, payment competitive in the US and Canada marketplace.
If interested, please DM me here with your email address, and I will send you more details and ask for your CV, examples of your work, and your company website information.
I am based in Canada, PDT time, and most of the work contact times would be between 1pm and 10pm PDT time.
As #Drupal7 is going to definitely die soon, I'm looking for simple and #secure blogging system to replace it and to host my #blog. After those years I see a plethora of #PHP based options.
As I've realised #Drupal/#WordPress grade #CMS is an overkill for my needs, it can be something more simple, less complex. Wysiwyg editor and automatic updates possibilities would be more than enough...
I haven't done that in A LONG TIME. However, there's been LOTS happening and I'm very excited for the future of the platform, right now.
I am obviously still a little cynical when it comes to corporations and their intentions with Fedi, though.
If I have time, (and if I feel good enough. Anxiety is a bitch) I'll do a writing session and detail my thoughts, reasonings, and experiences with this social movement so far.
I'll also be detailing the nuances of each cross-platform integration I have firsthand experience with.
Let me know if this is a type of blog post would be interesting or intriguing to you and it might help me with motivation to pull it off. I don't want to "yell into the void". Especially with something I have so much passion for, and will take some time to complete.
Mastodon will display rich text such as underlines, bold, italics etc if they are in posts from other kinds of Fediverse servers.
However, Mastodon itself doesn't support creating rich text posts unless you're on a server that uses unofficial customised software such as Glitch Mastodon.
You can find out more about Mastodon and rich text here:
@FediTips Oh, so that's why when I post from my #WordPress site, all the headings & other formatting seems to remain intact. Are there any tips you recommend to get the most out of this functionality? #AskFedi#WebDesign#RichText#Question
I'm looking for a webcam plugin for my #WordPress website. Just want people to be able to view an image that I update every few seconds using #NodeRED to #SFTP it to the server. Any suggestions from people who do this?
With #WordPress and #Ghost both on the Fediverse via ActivityPub integration, I wonder if #Medium is kicking themselves because they haven’t federated their blogging platform.
I understand they operate a Mastodon server, but I think most people would also prefer to receive their blog posts.
I do love these #website#blocks. NOT. No, I don't contact the website owner, I just never visit the website again. And more important: I never recommend it.
I noticed the company who wanted to add their service directly into Owncast, and I said no, started releasing their own version of Owncast with their own changes in it to support this use case.
I'm not sure how to feel about this. It's kind of a fork, but it's really just another release of Owncast by somebody else. They're releasing something called Owncast with functionality and decisions that have nothing to do with the real Owncast. It specifically says stuff like "Owncast does X", and Owncast does not do X, and will never do X. Only their changes do X.
I fear this may confuse people. If something goes wrong with their version of the software, people are going to ask me for support, and might make the real Owncast look bad. But I don't know if this is wrong, or if this is completely acceptable. It's open source, and the name "Owncast" isn't owned by anybody, as Owncast is an open source project, not a company. So I guess they have the right to do whatever they want and call it Owncast.
But it feels wrong, and it seems like really bad things could come of this.
@gabek If they want to fork #Owncast, they legally can, but they should not call it Owncast anymore. I know #Mastodon & #WordPress are open source as well, but they vigorously protect their trademarks to prevent this type of confusion.
If possible, I would encourage them to rename their fork something else. If they refuse, let us know which company it is so we can avoid doing business with them.
A happy ending for the company who annoyed #Apple & #iMessage users everywhere.
As far as a universal messaging system goes, this has been attempted numerous times with little success. I can see #Beeper complimenting #WordPress sites, but I do not see them creating a universal standard for sending messages.
But do we need a universal messaging system when we have email‽
