12 Baby wood ducks and their mother, or guardian anyway since there was another female closer to shore that I think was the one making the noise that alerted me to their presence. Might be the same ones I saw the other day but couldn't get to the camera without scaring them away. I actually thought these would be mergansers when I saw the water all stirred up close to shore. Seeing baby wood ducks is very rare.

Blue-Wing feed by diving and nibbling along the bottom of the water for vegetation and small insects and mollusks.
In this , one teal has its head underwater, feeding. The other has just finished and is swimming on the water’s surface at the Merritt Island National Refuge.

Once we lived near a small lake in the Netherlands. There were many coots living in the shore reeds and it was lovely to see them running across the water before they took off in flight.
