@CelloMomOnCars it's a little odd that they would mention India and China, not only because their per capita emissions are so much lower, but also because China at least is busting their ass to obtain both growth and a reduction in GHG emissions. Last I looked India was trying and had said all the right things, but China was delivering.

@SallyStrange@brhfl It's standard for Mastodon to throw up the error 'I can't find this user' and trying to get at it from outside instances, you'll see "suspended". That is what happens after an account is suspended. That is how the process works, authorized fetch or not (I'm the sole moderator for another instance, I've been at it for a while). I don't understand why we're having this debate.

If you REALLY want an uninhabitable planet to rehabilitate, take the engines out of existing rockets, put them on cinder blocks, and wait. The wait won't be long. You'll be on one faster, cheaper, and more reliably than if you try to escape the gravity well, and with lots better available resources.
Seems far better to me to just get started now in earnest with the serious task of fixing Earth, in hopes of optimizing out the messy, sad, painful part in the middle where humanity goes extinct due to that messy uninhabitability thing that's rocketing toward us. Fixing things here at home is perhaps not as flashy as planetary colonization, but it's much more relevant and, if we start now, doable. YMMV.
