Retired #military leaders filed an #amicus brief Mon writing that #Trump’s #AbsoluteImmunity theory “has the potential to severely undermine the Commander-in-Chief’s #legal & #moral authority to lead the military forces, as it would signal that they but not he must obey the #RuleOfLaw.”
#GagOrder Against #Trump Is Expanded to Stop Attacks on Judge’s Family
Donald Trump had in recent days targeted the daughter of Juan #Merchan, the judge overseeing his #criminal trial in Manhattan, in blistering social media posts.
#Merchan: “Such concerns will undoubtedly #interfere w/the fair administration of #justice & constitutes a direct attack on the #RuleOfLaw itself. Again, all citizens, called upon to participate in these proceedings, whether as a #juror, a #witness, or in some other capacity, must now concern themselves not only w/their own personal #safety, but w/the safety & the potential for personal attacks upon their loved ones. That reality cannot be overstated.”
#Republican-appointed judges raise alarm over #Trump attacks on #law
Federal DC Judge #ReggieWalton warned Trump’s attacks on #HushMoney trial judge & others could lead to #violence.
The Republican-appointed judge denounced Trump’s attacks against the judge presiding over his hush money trial in Manhattan & his daughter, calling them assaults on the #RuleOfLaw that could lead to violence & #tyranny.
“The #RuleOfLaw can only be maintained if we have #independent#judicial officers who are able to do their job & ensure that the #laws are in fact enforced & that the laws are applied equally to everybody who appears in our courthouse,” #ReggieWalton told CNN. He was prompted to speak out of concern for the “future of our country & the future of #democracy in our country,” Walton said, “because if we don’t have a viable court system that’s able to function efficiently, then we have #tyranny.”

Despite the unanimity of the justices, I disagree with the Supreme Court’s judgment that states may not enforce section 3 of the 14th A. That judgment is the bottom line. But far more dangerous is the majority opinion, which includes discussion that goes beyond this bottom line. Five justices have tried to prospectively prescribe two requirements irrelevant to the Colorado case. First, they claim that only Congress, not the judiciary or executive branch may enforce section 3. 1/ #LawFedi
The justices in the five person majority in #TrumpVAnderson show, once again, their utter disdain for the most elementary features of U.S. rule of law. They disregard text and precedent and trample separation of powers. Unsurprisingly then, their decision is primarily a piece of partisanship only masquerading as judicial work. 5/ #RuleOfLaw
👁👁 Eye-opening for those, who may not have known yet.
[Note: Split up into paragraphs for further clarity]
"When the 14th Amendment was ratified in 1868, it was obvious why Section 3 was included. When a nation cannot disqualify from public office those who have sought to destroy it, it casts doubt on its own legitimacy.
That is especially true of the unrepentant Trump. Even Confederate generals admitted they lost by swearing allegiance to the United States. Trump still insists that he didn’t lose.
Meanwhile, most Republicans dodge whether President Joe Biden won the election legitimately by grudgingly acknowledging that Biden is president.
The MAGA faction is not “conservative,” and even calling it “extremist” misses the point dangerously. Those advocating for conservative and even extreme policies should be welcome in a democratic polity.
But those acting in ways that reject legitimately constituted authority are neither conservative nor extreme. They are criminal.
Thus, if we hope to be a single America, then we must acknowledge that those who claim that the 2020 election was stolen, decry the prosecution of Trump as a crime, call those convicted for their January 6 crimes “political hostages,” and claim that the Rio Grande is Texas’s to defend and not the federal government’s, do not recognize the legitimacy of the United States.
They, like their Confederate ancestors, are not patriots."
In relation to Biden's age and mental health, this should get more attention.
ABC News previously reported that DHS withheld publication of an intelligence bulletin warning law enforcement agencies of a Russian scheme to promote “allegations about the poor mental health” of Biden. The draft bulletin, “Russia Likely to Denigrate Health of US Candidates to Influence 2020 Election,” was submitted to the agency’s legislative and public affairs office for review on July 7. https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/russia-spreading-disinformation-bidens-mental-health-dhs/story?id=72879355
@GreenFire 😎 Kinda funny, that a leaked 2016 psychological assessment from the Kremlin for internal use only described Donald Trump as an “impulsive, mentally unstable and unbalanced individual who suffers from an inferiority complex”.
Nonetheless the Putin regime committed to support Trump in the 2016 election, because "a Trump White House would help secure Moscow’s strategic objectives, among them “social turmoil” in the US and a weakening of the American president’s negotiating position."
@tmstreet Right! It should be a debate about why a career criminal is allowed to run for the highest office of the land, which obviously isn't protected against such brazen attacks on the Rule of Law!
Republican judge in Illinois finds that Trump engaged in insurrection & is disqualified under 14.3. He ultimately finds a higher court, not the electoral board, must decide this. First Republican judge in the nation to issue such findings!

ABRAHAM LINCOLN in 1838
at age 28, diagnosing lawlessness as cause of coming civil war #maga#ruleoflaw@abelLincoln
.."they make a jubilee of the suspension of its operations; and pray for nothing so much as its total annihilation.
"The only way to guard against such destruction, LIncoln said, was to protect the rule of law on which the country was founded.
“As the patriots of seventy-six did to the support of the Declaration of Independence, so to the support of the Constitution and Laws, let every American pledge his life, his property, and his sacred honor…. Let reverence for the laws…become the political religion of the nation."
Greg Garrett asks, What if Trump's openly telegraphed intention to be unconstrained by rule of law if he's president isn't just about his legal defense but is a key feature of his political appeal? He's priming his supporters to expect and demand that he — and they — be above the law if he's directed.
And they are clearly fervently on board with that idea, judging by PRRI findings cited by Garrett.
"Trump is relentlessly conditioning his supporters to expect a second term in which he will bend or break the law to wield the machinery of the state to persecute his opponents, perhaps on a mass scale—as he recently put it, to 'root out' the 'vermin.' Trump is telling his supporters that he will carry out their retribution, that he will persecute their enemies, that this is their due."
