Students walked out of the PSU graduation ceremony waving Palestinian flags and a huge chunk of their fellow students waved flags in solidarity. One student wrote "PSU profits from genocide" on their hand and held it up to a live camera. Students crossed the stage wearing or waving Palestinian flags and some interrupted Ann Cudd's speech with chants and booing. The booing was so loud she had to stop! Much love to the comrades in Portland!

Seeing the Seagull at Twilight Theater in Portland. I’ve read it before, but never had a chance to see it. I think I’m partial to Uncle Vanya, but this should be a good show.

Runs for a couple more weeks if you want to check it out.

friends: would you like, or do you know someone who'd like, a free bicycle? My dad bought this one for $50 just to get the fenders it came with, and would like to find it a new home.

It's a Schwinn Varsity Sport, 21" step-through frame, built in January 1973. This was a daily rider from the previous owner, and dad did some minor maintenance work — it's ready to ride.

Hi neighbors, I’m considering buying an e-bike (instead of a car, so think one-person Costco hauls) and I’m wondering if anyone is willing to share insights/advice/pro tips on living the e-bike + no elevator top floor apartment dweller lifestyle 😅

I can move but I want to stay in the suburbs so an elevator is a tough ask… should I try to secure a storage/garage allotment? Is regular bike parking secure enough? Do I start powerlifting now so I can take on a 50lb bike?

@portlandmercury I would add the "Dungeons and Drag Queens" event happening at the McMenamin's Mission Theatre show at 8pm on Saturday! I'll be there to record another interview with the DMs and the Queens after the show ends. I went to their previous show in December and it was hilarious and delightful.

EDIT: fixed a typo and accidentally wrote 9pm instead of 8pm 😅

Wishing a good rest to Bob Moore, who turned his company over to the workers in 2010. 700 workers now own Bob’s Red Mill.

(I call Bob’s oatmeal “The oats of righteousness” as a consequence).

Bob lived until 94. That’s a good run.

    aquaria update…signs of life .

Added to floating plants, Anubias and Java Fern…and a rooted plant…more floating plants (Salvinia?) and duckweed freeloaders.

Also some free loading 🐌 of indeterminate (to me) kinds.

When time available, will move ferns and anubias to wood where they belong.

Water chemistry has been amazingly stable…low pH, no/low ammonia/ nitrite/ nitrate/ phosphate, despite root tabs and spiking with algae wafers.

All in all, things looking good so far.

Goal of this tank is to prove that native substrate components and natural filtration can be used to develop a natural, low maintenance aquarium that requires less import of materials.

Most plants are propagated locally or even at local shops. Eventually locally reared shrimp and fish will be added to entertain the grandkid.

Closeup of freeloader 🐌 snail that hitchhiked in with plants.
Floating plants at top of large nursery tank.
Water chemistry showing no signs of ammonia or other nitrogen breakdown products. pH remains stable, if low. Carbonate and general hardness unknown at present…test kit arriving soon.

    Update on substrate

Triple or fourple the amount of plants in the substrate with a bunch of plants from the bargain bin at The Wet Spot in
Stem plants and swords now fill the base of the tank.

Phantom Tetras loving the cover and playground. Will add something more colorful this weekend. Perhaps 20 smaller tetras and after plants root, a bottom dweller or two.

Small stem plants in foreground (Rotalia?) with Madagascar Lace on left and swords in background
Closeup of a Phantom Tetra with large eye pattern behind gills
Overview of nursery tank with substrate now covered with various rooted plants and thick layer of floating plants to do heavy lift on filtration until rooted plants establish.
