Mr. Rufous Hummingbird at the buffet.

I found out that hummingbirds have a routine. If you wait 10 to 15 minutes, they will come back to that bush, in case you missed your first shots. Be patient! I photographed this one yesterday. They are common here on Vancouver Island.

A Broad-billed Hummingbird perches on a thin branch, facing left. Its bill is a dark orange, but closer to the tip the bill becomes black. It's head is turquoise and dark gray. Its back is showing a patch of turquoise on the left shoulder. The remainder of the back is a mixture of gray and turquoise. The birds tail is black but the edges of the tail feathers are paler. The background is a mixture of green colors of dfferent shades.

    I’m literally obsessed with the way the pine tree holds light. The pine needles, the leaking sap, the spiderwebs - they all contribute to a magical ever changing light that is so much fun to try to capture. My family wonders how I can be out there taking pix of the same bird in the same tree. Obviously it’s NEVER the same but they don’t get it 😆
