Atypical #morning: usually on non (paid) work days, I start slow- go tend to the cat then breakfast, coffee, social media, photo/video editing, writing etc. Sometime in the afternoon I go out: garden/yard things and of course wander and take photos...lol
Today: 'rainfall warning' 50-80mm though that is most likely to fall farther west; I wanted to mow in front of the house before work days- so a couple ounces of coffee and out to mow! Rain /thunder just started now at 1:25 #weather #Alberta

@plants Now nearly 4 hours since it started, rain is still coming- off and on, but mostly on, and often hard. Nice. Fire has been lit and house is toastifying and de-humidifying- so I took the opportunity to spray some houseplants...lol

A Chilean cactus a grey green body just slightly visible through a welter of spines- some fairly fine and almost hair like, white, others longer, a bit thicker, erect and somewhat curved inward, light to reddish with darker tips. In its ancestral land it would have counted on heavy fog for much of its moisture, so it surely appreciates the spray of water if just got, droplets collected in the spines where they will gradually drip down to the soil.
A small bubble-gum pink plastic elephant lolls on its back, out of focus underneath the divided leaves of a tuberous rooted Cissus plant.

I know I post about my avocado the most and it's a little unfair! So, look at how beautiful my happy bean looks! It's grown so much and one of the stems (?) is sprouting new leaves. It's so fascinating to witness.

This large-form mutation of Callisia repens 'Bianca' is flowering! They look like tiny fluffy pompoms. 🌸

Slightly wider view of the flower stalk emerging from a vegetative stem, which has bigger spread-out oval leaves with pink and green stripes.
A different stem which is reddish from sun. On this one the only visible part of the flowers are the puffball stigmas emerging from the base of each leaf.
Another stem with striped leaves with only the puffbal stigmas visible.

I found a weird little mutation on this T. zebrina Superba. From the top it looks totally normal, but from the underside there are random sectors with no purple.

The same stem flipped over. The leaf undersides are purple but there's a some random stripe of silvery-green on each leaf too.

Morning!

I never did show you how fast my avocado grew! This is less than a month of progress since the last post.

These little bunnies are the best thing I've ever gotten - they look sooo happy to hang out with the plants and watch them grow!

The avocado is getting its first leaves!
The bunny watches up with amusement, all we can see is the long stalk growing out of the seed.

Made my semi-annual trip to the Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden. It's pretty early in the season so there's not much going on outside, but the conservatory is always worth a look.

Our indoor, potted aloe is officially blooming with the lower flowers finally opening. Definitely took its time getting to it over these past few weeks.

Another close-up photograph of oblong flowers hanging along the flower stalk of an aloe plant. The angle shows where the yellow, tube-shaped flowers have peeled back slightly at the bottom to expose dangling stamens. The entire structure has a standard flower shape but as if its been stretched to a lengthy extreme.

My primula is setting tons of blooms since I've been dead-heading. New plants are a struggle until I find the best watering schedule. I use really well draining soil because I tend to overwater. The primula has dried out too much a couple of times due to that. It one of THOSE plants with the paradoxical best-practices guideline "Primula's like wet soil but not TOO wet."🤷‍♂️

The first(only) plant that I ever split off from its “parent” is coming along very nicely! It is some type of snake plant but I’m not sure which specifically.
