The many Opuntias I have here are also blooming happily. I have no idea what species any of them are, since they all came from traded cuttings that came from who-knows-where originally. Note carpenter bees.

A small, low-growing paddle-type cactus with four bright yellow flowers. Each has a starburst orange center.

How does the Cactus Wren build its nest? Very, very carefully...

A photo from my morning walk today. I went to photograph these (and other cacti) in bloom, and this friendly Cactus Wren appeared right in front of my camera. Nice coincidence for and not a photo I would've even hoped to be able to make — I actually had to zoom out! 😁

One of my photos was selected in the Washington Native Plant Society photo contest! 😊 This is Simpson’s Hedgehog Cactus, seen near Ellensberg, WA.

Cactus flowers are the best. This is a Echinocereus or hedgehog cactus. It's an early bloomer on the Colorado Plateau.

During Spring in the desert, the landscape shifts subtly. Saguaro cacti bloom, adding color to the barren terrain. A desert thrasher finds refuge on a flowering saguaro, embodying resilience in this harsh environment. Zoom in and check out the detail.

Today's cactus flowers. Slowly but surely, more of them are opening.

Um excuse me, what the actual...?

I looked over and wondered what had fallen on my cactus. I bought it for the geometry. I had no idea it would get a purple crown.

A closer side view of the flowers. Like pink funnels with jagged pointy edges. We can see that more are starting to emerge from the body of the cactus.
