Looking for name ideas for my future Sharkey instance.
I need to get off of this ridiculous Mastodon ride. Technically, I guess I COULD just do something temporary and then when I delete this instance, remake it with Sharkey and migrate again. I'd have "social" back, but that seems like a lot of work.
It's just gonna be me 99% of the time typing it in manually, so I want to keep it short, but also make sense or even funny/witty.
How much time is ok to wait after an account is moved from server A to server B, to bring down server A?
My old #Firefish instance is abandoned, just forwarding any request to my new #Mastodon#Glitch instance for the last 2 months, and I want to bring the first down finally.
I hate to post again, but I have been infected badly for two weeks and my medical needs are desperate and my food is low. I've had severe bronchitis, infections, and almost ended up in the ER twice with inability to breathe. My partner is also sick - I need #help.

Whn viewing mastodon in a browser, if I browse the 'home', or 'local' or 'all' timelines, I can enter a post for a closer look, and hitting the back button will take me back to exactly the same place in the timeline.
If I browse 'explore', when I hit the back button out of a post, I'm deposited a mile back in the timeline. And its REALLY FRUSTRATING.
Anyone else suffer this? Any ideas?

Moving to #Europe is starting to look like my only option to stay alive. I need to act fast or I'll have no energy to face the hardships.
In September 2023, disaster struck: Hazel Grove's Community Little Library was stolen when someone dumped all the books on the floor and stole the library.
We are fundraising to buy a new, bigger, better library using an organisation that uses salvaged wood. This will mean we can share more books with our community and possibly start a seed exchange bank as well.
If you are able, we would really appreciate some financial help towards our goal.
Our bank account looks quite healthy, but because of the way council funding works, we can't use the grant we received from them for the library.
Is there a way to follow #Lemmy communities through Mastodon in a way where you would only get new posts into your timeline? So filtering out the comments?
I spotted a post from @FediTips about using lists. I gave it a shot a long while ago, but thought about it again. Is there any way on #MonaApp to prevent any followed account on a list from being displayed on Home, or is that purely a web-interface setting with #Mastodon like I suspect it might be? Lol yeah, now when you search google for stuff like that the experience is:
You find a website with a link to an owner’s enthusiast discord for your car’s model.
But then once you join you have access to one channel called #rules
Then you figure out you have to react to that one message in that channel with a tire burning out emoji and you get access to another channel called #introductions where you have to describe yourself and your car.
Then if a mod thinks it’s genuine, they’ll let you in to the other channels.
You finally get in and search for your issue. Your issue is really specific, but you don’t know the technical terms to search for, so your keyword of “brake squeaking” pulls up all a massive unorganized list of results purely sorted by post date of anything including those keywords, no way to sort by relevancy or popularity, so you scroll, and you scroll.
You find one message that is close, but you need more info. But before you can post in the #help channel you have to make 3 posts in #general (to fight spam of course).
Finally, after succeeding in the requirements, you copy a link to the message you found in search and post in #help.
A mod tells you to use the search, that question has been answered. You explain that you already did but you’re not sure exactly what to search for. You are now banned
Discord’s walled garden and conversational approach is awful for gestalt knowledge storage and access.
