“If Pierre Poilievre makes a mistake, his drop will be hard and fast.”
Veteran pollster Nik Nanos on Canada’s strange politics, divisive data mining, how he became a top researcher, and more. Michael Harris reports. #canpoli
🤨 Well looks like the Conservatives might regret their rage-farming tactics. #JustDeserts
Conservative MP attacked online after praising police for arrest in alleged homophobic crime
"...social media responses to Ferreri called her "pathetic," a "fake Conservative," some accused her of being a "groomer" who holds "liberal, red tory values" and suggested police ignored other offences to go after this "woke, vote getting 'crime.'"
I've not been gaining much traction on Mastodon so I thought it was time for an #Introduction! I am creeping up on my mid-fifties, I am a Life/ADHD coach, I was diagnosed with #ADHD at 51, I've been diagnosed with #HealthAnxiety, I enjoy #CanPoli and #ABPoli but the polarization as of late stresses me out, I am a #hockey fan first, #EdmontonOilers second, I am an ally of #LGBTQ and the #Indigenous People of Canada. Give me a #follow and I'll return the favour!
@josh I'm still getting the hang of #wikidata, maybe someone who's more familiar with it can double-check my query, but this is what I was able to pull out.
My cup overflows with anger toward these lying, deceiving, murderous, oil and gas companies. So this morning, I did something I've never done before in hopes the people coming home from their long weekends in Tofino and Ucluelet get the message.
🚨 What We Risk by Normalizing Poilievre’s Politics
"We face losing nothing less than Canadian decency, decorum and democracy. Do news media recognize this?"
"Demonizing opponents, intimidating journalists, disrespecting institutions, politicizing the rights of the vulnerable and undermining truth are warning signs for democratic erosion."
"Now is the time-For Canadians concerned with.....our politics to resist giving in to despair."

Thank you @thetyee for having the courage to say what our MSM has been avoiding as they stand back and watch our democracy under attack.
Mainstream Canadian Media is failing us.
@CanadianCrone Agered. The Tyee and a few other independent news outlets are the only ones reporting on the truth behind Canadian politics. MSM has abandoned us. @thetyee@gemelliz@GottaLaff

@BeAware I've included an explanation in most of my posts about it. This is one that doesn't include it. But I did update it with a note that I have more info in my pinned posts on my profile. I know that doesn't really address the issue you brought up, but at least know I made the choice intentionally :+)
This is literal doom, but I actually find it mildly encouraging that our security and government services are being told the truth about the current state of the nation, society, and world. This is the kind of report that every single politician needs to not only read but reallyunderstand.
Quotes below:
"The situation will probably deteriorate further in the next five years, as the early effects of climate change and a global recession add their weight to the ongoing crises"
"accelerate the decline in living standards that the younger generations have already witnessed compared to earlier generations"
"the difference between the extremes of wealth is greater now in developed countries than it has been at any time in several generations"
"many Canadians under 35 are unlikely ever to be able to buy a place to live."
"Law enforcement should expect continuing social and political polarization fueled by misinformation campaigns and an increasing mistrust for all democratic institutions"
"Access to [big data] will allow private entities to develop the means to exercise undue influence over individuals and populations at an unprecedented level"
"In the wake of COVID-19, Canada's governments have normalized operating during a respiratory pandemic... the damage to the economy and to the social fabric of the nation is ongoing"
If you live in Canada, you should be aware that there’s a serious proposal being floated as a private member’s bill to establish a universal basic income. This is not a drill (though it may remain a pipe-dream). it’s reached second reading, and is garnering a lot of attention. You can support it here https://www.leahgazan.ca/basicincome?active=glbi_human_rights and read the proposed legislation here https://www.parl.ca/LegisInfo/en/bill/44-1/c-223
Check it out. Drop the cynicism for a minute and just imagine if we let ourselves have nice things.
