Oh God, I repressed this game. My parents bought this for me when I was far to young to even know what the hell I was doing. I played it for hours and got no where.... I might enjoy it now but the .... It felt like a punishment

Now I remember why I never played Duke Nukem.

Hi, thanks for your post. Can you provide links to the projects so that I can check them out more closely?

huntrss ,

Thanks

I personally think that such type of very difficult games should be played in small doses everyday, untile one has enough muscle memory.

But I am sure someone is dedicated enough to produce patches that balance the game experience more.

Splatterphace ,

Or you could, y'know, GIT GUD

Yots92 ,

to GIT GUD, one NEEDS TIME XD

GrappleHat ,
@GrappleHat@lemmy.ml avatar

To git gud you gotta git commit and keep git push'n

the_crotch ,

Muscle memory doesn't apply to shadowgate, it's a point and click sdventure

xyzzy , in The Majestic Birth of Graphical User Interfaces – Xerox Alto and the Alto Trek game

Can I imagine? Yeah, I lived it. Even Internet browsers used to be text only. My first modem was <1 kbit/s. (For contrast, the last dial-up modem speeds were 56,000 kbit/s, and today speeds are often 1,000,000 kbit/s or more.)

The mouse came before graphical OSes for me, since games used it but games were executed from the command line MS-DOS. Of course DOS was also capable of using a mouse. I didn't really use an OS GUI until Windows 3.1, which was mostly a novelty at first. That came out in the early '90s. I didn't have any exposure to Macs until System 7 in the mid-'90s.

My daily driver these days is a MacBook Pro. We've come a long way!

blisscast OP ,

It's impressive how fast our modems are compared to the 1kbit/s one! And yes, we've come a long way, and it's nice to look back at these things sometimes.

MacedWindow , in Can Cloud Strife (FF7) beat Link (Zelda)?
@MacedWindow@lemmy.world avatar

I don't see how Link could beat a super soldier even with all of his equipment. Could the master sword cut through the buster? That might do it.

calavera , in Should I get an NES, Master System; or an Atari 7800?
@calavera@lemm.ee avatar

I wouldn't get the Atari, other than that is up to your preferences, but I think NES is better

hitstun , in Who are your favorite NiGHTS characters from the original game?
@hitstun@fedia.io avatar

I thought Soft Garden's boss Jackle was a good fight. He tries to zone you out by throwing tarot cards at you, and it's satisfying to slip through his cards and hit him.

Kolanaki , in Should I get an NES, Master System; or an Atari 7800?
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

Like an actual, original console? If so, I'd say Master System. The 7800 sucks compared to the 2800 and the NES is so incredibly popular it doesn't seem as special as a Master System would be.

drcouzelis , in Should I get an NES, Master System; or an Atari 7800?
@drcouzelis@lemmy.zip avatar

What games do you want to play?

VanHalbgott OP ,

NES = Super Mario Bros., Gradius

Master System = After Burner, Space Harrier

7800 = Asteroids, Centipede

I might just have to buy the system myself.

Any of them will do.

dangblingus ,

Buying a 7800 to play Asteroids and Centipede is overkill. Those are both games for the 2600 and you can find a 2600 for far cheaper than a 7800.

AND The Empire it seems, you monster.

therealjcdenton , (edited ) in PC Engine (TG16) games are so colourful! I wish more modern games use bright colours like they used to do.
@therealjcdenton@lemmy.zip avatar

Isn't it just because there are less colors in between to choose from?

MCHEVA4EVA , in My Sega Saturn still doesn't read memory cartridges.

New OS what do you mean? My SS has a fenrir and a working memory card slot and I still find it a pita dealing with saves on this console. Luckily batsugun doesn't really need all that much save wise.

VanHalbgott OP ,

I want to preserve my system without updating it.

MCHEVA4EVA ,

That's fair enough. I had no nostalgia for it and came across one cheap console with a broken power supply. Swapped that out then upgraded it. The price of games for the system are pretty crazy especially for Shmups.

I do quite enjoy it though I had a play station growing up and if I had the choice again it would be the PS. Though the Sega saturn is a neat machine and it does have some interesting games.

jordanlund , in My Sega Saturn still doesn't read memory cartridges.
@jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

Possibly the cartridge and not the Saturn?

VanHalbgott OP ,

Possibly.
