Do you feel we would lose anything, if more Mastodon servers allowed longer posts? On many servers the limit is 500 characters, which means we sometimes see texts that span multiple posts.
Would more characters be good or bad?

@randahl I am quite happywith current length.

@MorpheusB I am not surprised you would find it worrying if they changed something…

In the Matrix. 😬

@randahl Posts on social.kernel.org may have up to 31337 characters. ;)

@monsieuricon why that seemingly random number?

monsieuricon ,

@randahl It's meaningful in the context of kernel hacker subculture. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet

@randahl I often post on legal issues, and lawyers are known for being verbose!

My prior instance had a 1000 character limit, which was great, but my current instance's 500 character limit artificially restrains some of my posts.

@randahl mine does 1000, which to me seems to be the right balance between an incentive to be succinct and enough space to express most viewpoints effectively. If I had 2000 characters, I would use it, but I can’t honestly say my posts would be better for it.
