I’ll bet it was beginning to feel like this day was never going to come…especially after all those trips back and forth since 2022. I’m so happy you’re finally going to be able to put down some roots while you continue to look for a place to buy in beautiful BC. 🫶
2019 ‼️
Wow, I didn’t know it’d been that long.
We’ve been planning our move from Ontario to B.C. for about that long too (and we’re Canadian), so you’re still ahead of us! It’s a big freaking deal to move your life, but also an exciting adventure. We’re glad to have you here. 😀
I bookmarked the links when you shared them in a post this week, but I’ve not read them yet. I’m looking forward to learning about your adventures.
Few understand how difficult it is to move/work in another country. We used to do safety consulting in the US, but since 2015 it’s nearly impossible to cross the border for meetings, b/c US border security have no idea how to classify consultants, so they keep us out. US clients are always surprised it’s hard to cross the border.
Yeah, people think they can just move there, at the drop of a hat, if things go wrong in the US. They can, but they have to go back to the US every 6 mos. And they can’t get the free medical care.
@GottaLaff I moved from Michigan to BC just over 20 years ago. If there is anything you would like to know or need help with, don't hesitate to reach out.
@GottaLaff
In 2016 I moved. Thank goodness was buyers market then, by me, anyway, for my new(used) house. B4 Covid, thank goodness. My previous house was in really depressed area. No bites, zero. Finally after about 6 months, with help from my bro, we visited agent and canceled his contract. Told him we would self sell. Agreed he could offer, with a lower commission. Guess what? He came with a buyer w/i the month. Good luck 💕💕🤞
@GottaLaff As a California native who moved to Toronto almost 35 years ago: welcome! It's no paradise north of the border but it's a great place and a step up. Even the money is better, eh?
@GottaLaff welcome to Canada! We are happy to have you. One of the things you’ll need to do is learn to pepper your dialogue with phrases like: “I’ll have a double double”, and the ever popular “oot and aboot”. And to affirm something: “Eh” (pronounced AY).
@oclsc Their coffee is okay, I guess. But their food sucks. We tried it. Once. That was enough. So, no, I'm not a fan of Timmie's. But I don't hate it either. @rickbelanger

Understood. They’re an acquired taste most people will avoid acquiring.
Now and then when traveling I try weird local food. I’ve eaten it maybe 3 times on Canadian ski trips.
@JohnMashey I love unusual and local food for the most part, in every country. My mom was a gourmet cook, so I was exposed to a lot of exotic tastes, but the heavier ones just don't work for me. @oclsc@rickbelanger

Note: I actually have enjoyed poutine, especially after day of skiing, but it’s a guilty pleasure my cardiologist would not like.
@GottaLaff@JohnMashey@oclsc I’m one of those Canadians that doesn’t like hockey or Gord Downey’s music (may he rest in peace) - so am not overly fussed when others say they don’t like something “Canadian”… you like what you like and I’ll do the same.
@GottaLaff I know you all are going and will enjoy all of everything Canada, but it still makes me sad. I wish you the very best! Post pics of the country side☺️ And I hope you will still have the same attitude about the goings on in your former country! 🤗
@GottaLaff@clane22 I trust you've looked up the tax/fiscal reporting obligations the IRS will impose even when your tax home is permanently abroad. And, on a cheerier note, that you are guaranteed the right to vote for US federal offices in the last US place you lived. (None of that a big deal in practice, just something some people miss, so offering a heads-up.)
@GottaLaff I’m fairly sure I could tell, I follow and knew when you last went to look at the house that was not available by the time you got there. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s good to follow your desire, I just think it’s a sad thing when politics plays a part. I have friends who are also contemplating, I’ll be sad if that comes to fruition as well.
@clane22 No, I meant, I post the same no matter where I am. And nobody can tell where I am unless I drop hints. So your comment about having the same attitude wouldn't apply here. I'm still full on American politics with a sprinkle of Canadian.
