All along they've told us it would be so easy... just recycle some of your trash, or ride a bike once in a while, and everything will be fine.

There's no need to even think about system change. 🙄

    @breadandcircuses I been throwing all my trash in a bin, putting all my recycleables in the recycle bin, including but not limited to stuff I get zero cash back for, staying indoors and I dont use a car unless I absolutely must travel I carpool...

    Why isnt the world saved yet?
    I cant do more without sacrificing myself. Am I breathing in too much oxygen? I'm sorry! I dont know what else to do!

    I’d be funny if everyone showed up at the next town hall demanding zoning laws support car free walk ability (mixed use) and building codes 3 story dense housing.

    That would scare big oil more than protests.

    @breadandcircuses it's a red herring, but if you don't do it, I'll probably ghost you. It's at least indicative of the desire to be a decent person.

    @breadandcircuses When future intelligence discovers our records they'll go "Hm, that was an intelligent specie, but any top predator that fails to evolve to avoid overpopulation is doomed for extinction by pollution and depletion." Too late now: large populations make technology a necessity, our technology ensures we will remain too fragile to last. We are overpopulated, and the future conflict of resources between cleaning up the environment and supporting the elderly is impossible to resolve.

    @breadandcircuses In the early '70s I learned from my teacher that if children would take showers instead of baths, we'd save the water supply. Essentially.

    DanadasGrau ,
    @DanadasGrau@mastodon.social avatar

    @breadandcircuses it went back further than the 80’s. Reduce, recycle, and reuse started in the 70’s

    DanadasGrau ,
    @DanadasGrau@mastodon.social avatar

    @Eka_FOOF_A @breadandcircuses it was a red herring to begin with. Just a thing to make people feel like they are doing something, whilst the corporate world continues to manufacture the poisons.

    @Eka_FOOF_A @DanadasGrau @breadandcircuses

    Recycle was fine. That's why they put so much money in advertising it.

    It was the reduce part that got eliminated by the capitalists quickly. Reuse didn't last much longer. But oh hey, recycle that Starbucks. Look. We are saving the planet with smaller cups!

    DanadasGrau ,
    @DanadasGrau@mastodon.social avatar

    @chu @Eka_FOOF_A @breadandcircuses recycling itself is a scam. Plastic can only be recycled a couple of times, then what?

    chu ,
    @chu@climatejustice.social avatar

    @DanadasGrau @Eka_FOOF_A @breadandcircuses

    Plastic can't be recycled at all.

    At best it gets down cycled. None of those food containers turn into another food container

    Actually plastic can be recycled. It just takes much more energy and refining than making it from virgin oil.

    It's been well known in the industry it's a fraud but theoretically, it CAN be recycled. Just like theoretically I can regrow carrots from my carrot tops.

    The fact only YouTubers can successfully do it is beside the point. It CAN be done and that's what industry sells. It's a big can of bullshit
