So let me get this straight. Gov. Abbott of TX says he’ll defy federal law because an “invasion” has happened at the border, but the GOP refuses to fix the border because that would hand Biden a political win? Have I got that right?

@rbreich yes and it makes sense. They don’t care about county or kin. They desire power. They demand to be in charge. They will do everything, say anything to accomplish this.

ScottGrimmett ,

@rbreich the first step in making dictatorial rule look attractive to voters is to make parliamentary rule look ineffective. I’m convinced this is a conscious strategy by at least a part of the GOP.

The Republican calculus seems to be: That which benefits the United States in general, diminishes Donald Trump in particular, and therefore must be opposed.

Trump told the NOT to fix the so that he could campaign on the chaos.

wants the damaged so that he can claim he is there to fix the damage.

Trump is like the firefighter who starts fires so that he can claim he's saving people when he puts them out. But Trump is so inept that he never actually puts out the fires that he's started. He just starts new ones to distract from the old ones.

And the fires he starts are burning the country down.

@rbreich What would happen if Texas declared its own sovereignty? Who has violated their oath? Gov. Abbott and, upon rejoining, would possibly need to vacate his office? Who would protect their waters? Air traffic conntrol?

Yes. And the irrationality of it all is a feature to the GOP base.

The Founders were smart to give the Senate six-year terms. They are less sensitive to bi-ennial elections. Now, it seems is threatening senators with getting primaries.

@rbreich It all makes sense when you keep in mind that (a) it's all coordinated by the Trump campaign, led by a "man" with syphilitic dementia, and (b) Republicans don't actually have any interest in helping the country, only helping themselves.

@rbreich House GOP, I think. Looks like the Senate GOP was willing to make a deal, or at least enough of them to get past a filibuster.
