Partner of #Trump’s Project 2025 calls for abolishing the 22nd Amendment, allowing Trump to be in office forever
The American Conservative headline: "Trump 2028" with the byline: "The Twenty-second Amendment is an arbitrary restraint on presidents who serve nonconsecutive terms-and on democracy itself."
@GottaLaff Somehow they missed the irony in the 22nd Amendment having been passed as a Republican response to 12 years of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and the GOP being the party of Term Limits.
@GottaLaff This is also a reminder that, had the Dems lost the popular vote in 7 of the last 8 elections, but held the White House for 12 years in the same span, the GOP would have long since abolished the Electoral College.
@GottaLaff I saw this coming from a mile away. Though I really thought he would ease into it more. What I expected was if he regained power he would just declare that one of the times didn't count because of "massive election fraud" or etc and work into declaring he gets a freebee.
It's almost scary how fast the Project 2025 timeline for taking over America truly is. They're throwing all cares and cautions to the wind. What scares me is they might find another stooge even if Trump fails.
@GottaLaff Yes, it is an arbitrary restraint ... one that you guys insisted on as result of FDR ... But yes, it is arbitrary ... like everything else in the constitution.
It's funny how Republicans loved the 22nd Amendment after FDR served four terms, but suddenly they want to install their Mango Mussellini for life. I don't think anyone ever suggested such a thing for FDR.
@GottaLaff Oh my god... I didn't think he would be that bold in being arrogant. That is pretty spooky. He knows only the shame of losing/being mocked and nothing much else.
@GottaLaff As for the shame aspect, he may deny losing, but deep underneath every sociopathic narcissist is shame that they desperately try to hide. Because admitting the shame that they have would tear their precious egos apart and they refuse to do so.
@GottaLaff Pretty sure the 22nd isn't the only amendment they want rid of: the 13th, 14th, and 19th all spring to mind (and I'm not even American, why is this shit living rent-free in my head?)
@GottaLaff
I have to admit that I’m surprised that they would bother to attempt to legitimize his staying in office forever. I assumed they’d announce that AFTER the election.
You know they plan to WEEKEND AT BERNIE’S him long after he dies.
@GottaLaff
I saw a program talking about a Trump 2nd term, and how surrounding himself with his loyalists would make it a much different thing than his first term and would enable him to push all kinds of things through with nothing to stop him. That is a very frightening thought. The first was bad enough.
@GottaLaff
I have seen other programs that weren't quite as blunt as this last one, which laid out very specifically how he could avoid any accountability with Congress etc. and dismissed people saying "it wasn't so bad before, we'll survive" as fools. I only wish we were less open to American influence here.
@GottaLaff
It really is. I live a stone's throw from the border and never imagine crossing it again. It's awful, as I used to greatly enjoy US vacations and business dealings.
@Lomaxcat I'm so sorry. I really am. I feel miserable about my country. I can't believe I felt it necessary to move! But that's how it is now, and we should move in May.
@GottaLaff
I am on the north shore of Lake Ontario in a province led by someone who thinks Trump is just peachy and professes that he is a "big ol' Republican." 🤦♀️
@GottaLaff@Lomaxcat yeah. But if Trump does whatever he wants, can strike current laws for the highest bidder, there go environmental protections, the endangered species act, and all our clean water and clean air laws. Drilling and strip mining on all federal lands for a cut of the back end.
Just as people figured out the environment is global.
Imagine a war to try and stop global warming before it is to late. Imagine the progressive world trying to stop the largest military in history.
@AlisonW I doubt they will. But they very well may make that ruling after a nice long delay that will essentially accomplish the immunity for him, in that trial.
