Heather Cox Richardson notes that the image of the ideal woman Republicans offered the word with Kate Britt's response to the SOTU in a kitchen is the result of years of attacks on women's equality and feminism, with the white evangelical base of the Republican party leading the way.
Britt reminds me of Yvonne Strahovski's character in "Handmaid's Tale" where she was once a woman with power and intellect, and brought about a future where she was no longer allowed to read.
The collaborator is the hardest thing to understand with them.
I mean I get why fascists are fascists, I really don't get why the groups they persecute sell out other members of their group or work against their own interests.
It's why fascism succeeds. We're willing to sell out others before we decide we have to fight back, and when we do it's too late.
"When Britt delivered the Republican rebuttal to the State of the Union from a kitchen, wearing a cross and using a submissive speaking style, she represented the outcome of the longstanding opposition to women’s equal rights in the United States.
The Democrats’ position last night was a sharp contrast. Biden stood in front of the nation’s first female vice president as he denounced the Republican assault on women’s rights. He warned the country: 'America cannot go back.'”
@wdlindsy #Republicans: "We don't want to suggest that a woman's place is at home in the kitchen taking care of the kids, but here is a female senator at home in the kitchen taking care of the kids." 🤦♂️
