“'We don’t want that filth in our state,' an Oklahoma state senator said of LGBTQ students, who are being targeted by at least 50 Republican-supported bills in the legislature with full endorsement from the secretary of education.

Tom Woods, a Republican from far northeastern Oklahoma, made the comments two weeks after a nonbinary student who was being bullied at school died suddenly under mysterious circumstances."

"'We are a religious state and we are going to fight it to keep that filth out of the state of Oklahoma because we are a Christian state – we are a moral state,' Woods said."

@wdlindsy

I don't suppose the filth was the high school students who in that high school beat another student to death

@libramoon Touché.

@wdlindsy So moral and Christian are they that they did NOTHING when children were bullied to the point of DEATH in their school. I hope the teachers and administrators are brought up on manslaughter charges!

@thepoliticalcat Well-stated.

@wdlindsy
Maybe someone should remind him that, under the US Constitution, there are no "Christian states"

wdlindsy OP ,
@wdlindsy@toad.social avatar

@TCatInReality Indeed. Of course, in their universe of made-up history a la David Barton, that sane observation counts for nothing.

No Christian calls other people filth.
It's not a thing.

wdlindsy OP ,
@wdlindsy@toad.social avatar

@CindyS Yes, I agree. And when someone calls other people — especially vulnerable minority communities — filth, I think to myself, "I'd look in the mirror as I uttered those ugly words."

@wdlindsy A Christian state? Referring to others as filth? Yep, gotta love that ol'time religion. Sounds like hell to me.

@npaulreads Sounds to hell like me, too.
