You can’t spell security without “c”. But not c++. That shit is bad.

@jerry God, this brings back horrible memories....

Ever meet a hardcore C programmer? Their hate for C++ or anything other than C is legendary. I thought the Emacs/vi wars were bad, but holy hell.

I lived this while working for a certain fruit-based smartphone pioneer. Let's just say the Java platform I was partially responsible for didn't even get a firing squad, it was nuked from orbit. But the others fought a harsh, losing battle. Such vitrol.

@JohnsNotHere long ago, I was one 😁

@jerry I knew there was a reason I appreciate you from a distance. 😂

@JohnsNotHere@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry To be fair, I started with C before moving to C++, then Java. But those are the times we do not speak about any longer.

jerry OP ,
@jerry@infosec.exchange avatar

@JohnsNotHere I, and probably many c programmers, wanted to like c++ but I think it was over my head at points, and so I just make fun of it as a defense mechanism

JohnsNotHere ,
@JohnsNotHere@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry Oh I get it. I went to Java just because it had such a plethora of built-in libraries that were easier to use/find documentation for. In truth I was just lazy and intimidated with C++ as well.

@Rajiv@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry @JohnsNotHere I actually liked C++ after I did the transition over from C. that lasted until I saw badly written C++ code that myself and a coworker had to convert from one compiler to another and had to remove all class method implementations that were done using X86 assembly.

@BradRubenstein I haven’t had class in decades 😅

*Disclaimer - I learned C++ in community college in 1992

jerry OP ,
@jerry@infosec.exchange avatar

@juanzelli I learned c in ‘92. I took some c++ courses, in 93-94, but it just didn’t stick

bhawthorne ,
@bhawthorne@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry @juanzelli I learned C++ when it was still just a preprocessor for the C compiler.
