@ElleGray If they could, they'd probably be experiencing rural living... unfortunately, light pollution obscures the starlight in most urban settings... 🫤
@ElleGray I'll never forget one time when I was camping out under the stars somewhere in the desert, and I stared up at the universe long enough to realize I could view everything above me in 3 dimensions, as we are moving through this space.
@ElleGray If only we had much less #LightPollution and #LightTrespass so we could see stars, Milky Way without driving for hours to the backcountry.😕😡 International Dark Sky Association (IDA) a great resource, including model dark-sky ordinances.👍
@ElleGray Yes, but you can't see them in most cities, and anti-establishment (development) sentiment is what's got a lot of people bitter. They can't afford to travel, or move, and they don't see a way out of their patchwork of multiple, ften rotating jobs.
If people wanted to pay for (actual) campsites and car rental for folks who can't afford them, you'd have a lot more people getting out and looking at the stars.
If they stopped building electric streetlights all over the place everywhere that stayed turned on at all hours of the night, then we wouldn't have to go camping.
Though personally, I don't look up at the stars anymore, even if I can see them. Nothing up there but empty promises, broken dreams, death and horror. Give me a cloudy night any day, to save me from looking up at that shining, twinkling wasteland.
@cy@janisf I'm not sure how this post has inspired such depressing comments. It's not just yours. It really feels impossible to post anything online anymore with it being torn down or twisted into something darker
As an adult the most spiritual experience I have is when I'm watching the night sky.
It's amazing how connected I feel when I do this. It's a genuinely emotional experience to look back in time at the light that has been traveling through space for an age.
Every night we have the chance to study and observe the ancient past and so many of us take it for granted.
