@GottaLaff
We moved so many times. It's stressful but exciting. So are you going to become one of the Canadians who shake their heads and feel embarrassed to be our neighbors? (Or terrified...)
Hope your house sells today!! And your move is smooth and exhilarating.
@GottaLaff
I love your conversational, relaxed writing style. I can't believe I missed this entire & momentous info! So exciting. We moved from NY to San Diego with vans, PODS, dogs, cats, kid... it was a blast. After hubby died, I moved back to NY. It's draining but fun. It sounds like you're all set to go. Enjoy the trip & be safe. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
@GottaLaff what a pity. Hope you can still sell it for a good price. 🙏Friend of mine is in the same situation, already has a new one in another country, desperately wants to move - and they can't sell since months and are on hold. When you don't want to sell, people want it. When you need, no.
@GottaLaff that was my big problem here. Renovation was over 4 times the house price before I even could move in... (But my one was an old ruin.) Hope, you can do a lot of things one by one, after you're in. Love takes time.
@Dodo_sipping We had to wait 20 years to do our current house. So, little by little wasn't affordable either. I have no time left in my life to wait that long.
@Dodo_sipping We were hoping to pay all cash for a house. Every realtor thought our house would sell quickly and for full price. Now we have to lower our standards for the next house, and hope there's not much to redo. Sigh.
@GottaLaff
I feel you, we called our Escondido house the Hell House because once we decided to move we found so much wrong with it that our apparently lazy-ass VA-appointed house inspector never caught that we had to legally fix before we could sell it, AND we got scammed by the $40k "HERO" home improvement project when we got hvac installed (a growing necessity in Southern California) through a house lien they promised could be rolled into the house sale price but nope... Every single potential buyer insisted - we- had to fully pay it off first 🙃 God, so many unpleasant memories... Hope you get through this smoothly! @isotope239
@toplesstopics Our house is letter perfect. What it doesn't have is a pool. It's priced right, built right, renovated right, in the right neighborhood. @isotope239
@GottaLaff
I hope it works out soon for you. Ironically our house DID have a pool, but it was unheated and constantly surrounded by shade from the shaggy palm trees the previous owners thoughtlessly planted even though there wasn't room for them, so the pool was constantly cold, even in So Cal 🙃 @isotope239
I read an article recently (here on mastodon) about the difficulty in getting home owners insurance in California and when one can, the price is sky high - do you think the insurance situation is playing a role in your situation?
@GottaLaff it's a bad market for houses due to the stupid interest rates.
Have a peek at the cost of having a management company rent it for you and retain ownership for a few years if the price dropping seems to be too severe.
