"There is no doubt 'Project 2025' would transform America into a much nastier, much more dangerous, much more hostile place for anyone who dares to deviate from what the Right deems the ;natural order. In a very real sense, that’s what’s on the ballot in November."

"The election isn’t really about Biden vs. Trump; it’s a referendum on whether the effort to finally realize the promise of a truly democratic, pluralistic, multiracial society should be continued or abolished altogether. Those are the stakes."

The nation has been at this crossroads before, and the "great experiment" called Democracy has prevailed. I believe we will be successful, though it's becoming clear that there will be a violent insurrection in November, when 'rump loses, that we need to be prepared to put down, once and for all.

Also, we have a LOT of work to do to clean up the courts, the DOJ, the FBI, and local PD's, school and library boards, etc.
My biggest fear is that instead of going forwarded to insure that what almost happened doesn't happen again, we'll just be so relieved to have dodged a bullet that we'll all simply go home thinking "thank God it's over".

@CindyS I think voter fatigue or fatigue in general is a real issue, especially after the pandemic. The folks I worry most about in that regard are younger people who had to live through a liftime of worry and challenge in recent years, and may in many cases be tempted to think giving up is the only route to take.

And real life kicks in. Job, mortgage, bills, family. And the bad actors are adept at waiting to act when we're busy with something else. After the (perceived) success of the Civil Rights movement, and the Vietnam War was finally ended, and the people in charge were alerted to the coming climate crisis, most of us (with misguided faith) breathed a sigh of relief and got on with our grown up lives. And while we were busy, the politicos started quietly selling the country to the 1%.

This has happened over and over again. I don't think what we've been through the past few years is any worse than the Civil War, or WWI followed by a flu pandemic. Or the great depression, dust bowl, and polio epidemic. Add in all the political machinations that were going on during all those events. We need to take care thinking of this as the "worse thing that's happened" because it makes it easier to use as an excuse to "give up". We need to learn from history and act accordingly.

@CindyS I think the one factor that changes things in a significant way, as compared to the historical instances you cite, is the internet and the ability of maleficent players to flood the zone with absolute BS, lies, disinformation, on a relentless basis.

@CindyS I hope you're right.
