lettruthout , in Cheney says it’s ‘worth’ Johnson losing Speakership over passing Ukraine aid bill

Sort of a weirdly written title (and article). Apparently she's saying that Johnson MIGHT lose his job if he allows the Ukraine aid package to pass, and that would be a worthy sacrifice if it means that the US will get back on track to stopping Putin's war.
The title almost made it seem that she's saying that he SHOULD lose his position over this. But no...

“Right and what I would say to that is, you know, he ought to understand that it is worth it if he has to lose his Speakership in order to make sure that freedom survives in order to make sure that the United States of America continues to play its its leadership role in the world,” Cheney responded.

You make it sound like this is new... 😶

MyPornViewingAccount ,

TBF, its also a jobs bill for the US.

Sure, we're giving you x amount of dollars, but youre spending that money on buying weapons & ammo from the US.

Michigan is starting to sound pretty legit

mindbleach , in Michigan Just Became the First State in 6 Decades to Scrap an Infamous Anti-Union Law

Very glad the headline bluntly calls it what it is, instead of the bullshit lie conservatives slapped on it.

bmsok , in Michigan Just Became the First State in 6 Decades to Scrap an Infamous Anti-Union Law

This is what happens when Gerrymandering starts to fade away and the people have a chance to actually speak from the ballot box.

You get a true majority of legislators and governors that fight for the rights of their constituents.

Ashyr , in Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips lays off large portion of presidential campaign staff

I'm pretty sure his entire campaign was to be ready to go in case Biden were to die of old age.

Good. Maybe they’ll fuck off back home to russia.

themeatbridge , in A chaotic US House is losing three Republican committee chairs to retirement in the span of a week

He also noted that there’s been no cost-of-living adjustment for lawmakers. At $174,000 a year, they make the same wage they did 15 years ago.

Maybe they should skip the avocado toast.

halfwayserious ,

Federal minimum wage hasn't moved in fifteen years either. Frank Lucas, the subject of the quote, voted against raising it in 2019.

Last year [2018], data from the Census Bureau showed 1 in 6 Oklahomans lived below the poverty line of $24,600 for a family of four before taxes.

Wermhatswormhat ,

Have they tried just making a budget? It’s easy just make your coffee at home instead of getting Starbucks.

givesomefucks , in Ted Cruz and Don Jr boost debunked claim that Lakewood shooter was a trans woman

So libel is written, and slander is verbal...

Is social media really just a grey zone and neither apply?

Why aren't these asshats getting sued constantly?

Astronaut_M_Dexter ,

I can't speak for every case where they should be sued into the ground, but wouldn't the person they're defaming be the one that has to bring the charges? The shooter isn't in much of a position to do so (unless the family can?).

I'd love to see some LGBT+ organizations bring charges since they're drumming up this rhetoric to stir up hatred toward that community, but I honestly don't know if they would have legal standing to do so.

captainlezbian ,

Libel is published is a better way to think of it. This is slander but can you slander a group? Like seriously is it slander when someone claims that John Wilkes Booth was Jewish? Or is it just a prelude to crimes against humanity without consequences except to the victims?

Lemminary , in Romney says Trump Nato comments make ‘friends wonder if they can rely on America’

He hasn't even won the presidential election yet and people are pretending this is happening. Ignore the orange asshole unless he wins, he only wants attention.

MinorLaceration ,

Ignoring a potential problem until it becomes an actual problem sounds pretty fucking stupid to me.

Lemminary ,

Giving him a platform every time he opens his yap sounds just as stupid by playing into his game. We're all really stupid here, I guess.

Tear him the fuck down NOW so he doesn’t win.

Im Australian and we had the conversation at work today that China is predictably evil whereas America wakes up every morning and spins a roulette wheel for their D&D alignment and then another for what drug they are going to do today.

"TODAY ITS.... CHAOTIC NEUTRAL AND BIKER METH!"

PrinceWith999Enemies ,

Yeah, we’ve kind of lost the narrative here. We should probably bring in a team of consultants to help us refocus on our core competencies and align our efforts better as a team.

I’m afraid that’s going to mean laying off a lot of republicans, but we need to become more efficient at delivering real value, and I’m sure they’ll understand.

PrinceWith999Enemies , in Romney says Trump Nato comments make ‘friends wonder if they can rely on America’

Jesus Christ, the current candidates manage to make Mitt Fucking Romney look like he’s 30 years old.

Got_Bent ,

In my own mind, 1994 was a couple weeks ago, not thirty years ago. It takes a conscious mental step for me to register that these candidates are demented geriatrics because they're still young in my mind because 1994 was last week.

This also applies to musicians as well as that creepy old dude I see in the mirror. No idea where he came from.

I suspect the vast majority of older voters are not taking that conscious mental step and are voting for young candidates that they remember from "last week."

This is not a justification at all. Merely a self reflection that I occasionally get caught up in time denial myself.
