somewhiteguy , in When dating, "Just be confident" is just bad advice if you ask me.

Confidence: having faith or belief in oneself and/or abilities

So, being confident during dating is just knowing you have what it takes to make it. Nothing about that is "bothering people", at least it shouldn't. Know what your character and abilities are and do your best with the rest. Dating is about learning what you're into and what they are into as well. Ask them questions that you'd like them to know about you as well, so you both learn. Date at places that are neutral and there isn't a ton of pressure. You don't have to be arrogant or loud, just know your worth and what you're good at.

You can do it. It sometimes feels like a lot, but you got this.

mountainCalledMonkey , in How was your day, Lemmy? Because mine was mortifying!

that's pretty funny and equally embarrassing. thank you for sharing. i admit, I don't pay much attention to traditional lunch times becsuse i mainly meet with network ops folks who have no concept of time or work-life balance. 24/7 or bust.
i have a beard so foods like ribs, and tacos that fall apart are my kryptonite. i feel like i need to take a face shower after a meal at times. And honestly after the quarantine period of covid i felt like i had to learn how to interact with society again.
cheers.

mryessir , in Alright let's settle this once and for all: Emojis in a sentence are placed before a period 🤔? Or should they be placed after?🤔

Before :). Otherwise I am getting angry ಠ_ಠ.
Smilies add context to the current statement. So a smilie afterwards just catches the overall vibe. 😌🤓😌
And this may be rude to someone. 🙄

FleetingTit , in Alright let's settle this once and for all: Emojis in a sentence are placed before a period 🤔? Or should they be placed after?🤔

Emojis generally replace the period but come after a question mark or exclamation point.

Can I borrow your pen? 😊

I borrowed your pen 😅

You little shit! 👿

I just treat them like the floating pics in a word documentation. So ba👌sically anywhere.

I treat them as a separate element to the text, and as such aren't really part of the punctuation or grammar, so I try to keep any at the end of the entire message to convey the actual expression I had making it. 😉

After... I've said what I have to say, now I'm making a face at you. See?

DashboTreeFrog , in Alright let's settle this once and for all: Emojis in a sentence are placed before a period 🤔? Or should they be placed after?🤔

IMO, they generally replace a period, comma or exclamation when used. In the cases where it's a necessary question mark or something like that, I'd put the emoji after👍

Caesium ,

yep, to me emojiis and emoticons act as punctuation. helps keep things more casual :3

Mastengwe , in Alright let's settle this once and for all: Emojis in a sentence are placed before a period 🤔? Or should they be placed after?🤔

If you’re over the age of 12, they shouldn’t be placed at all.

snek_boi ,

It sounds like you don’t consider emojis appropriate. How come?

Have an urgent message you want to send to someone who is not uptight or a snob? In the same way in which people smile to be kind or be welcoming, I use emojis:

“Thanks for the file ☺️”

In the same way that people mirror emotions, I use emojis:
“I’m sorry about the presentation 😢”
“Yeah. Those reports can take quite a while to digest 😅”

In the same way that emotionally intelligent people are candid and therefore vulnerable and able to connect with others, I use emojis*:
“It’s taking forever to load 😭”
“I’m kinda nervous about tomorrow’s meeting 😬”

*Of course, my dumb ass is far from emotionally intelligent. I just strive to create connection.

I recognize that, at times, a social situation could seem to demand deference beyond emojis. At the same time, there are many situations where emojis could be appropriate. I am trying to let you see why and in what contexts someone would use emojis ☺️.

Also, there’s the whole Poe’s Law issue. Emojis can help with clarity.

I was able to fix my /home size by using another partition (yes, a typical Lemmy comment). Took me longer than expected, but worked in the end!

LucasWaffyWaf , in What’s the most wholesome interaction you’ve ever had with a stranger?

Saw my favorite band at a concert once, and for some reason I couldn't work out, my card wouldn't work at the merch desk. Worked at the bar, not the merch. Ol' mate working the merch desk straight up gave me the $60 worth of albums for free! Genuinely moved me to tears.

Funny that though, I'm seeing them again tonight, and I plan on paying the guy back.

Looking at the modlog, you weren't banned for your views but your combative and rude attitude expressed in numerous comments, breaking the rules about civility.

ZDL , in Sick of internet moderators and their ego trips.

Colour me a little bit suspicious here, but when someone says "all I did was disagree with X" I start wondering at what the "disagreement" looked like.

Since I only have one side of the story, I'm going to reserve judgment beyond, you know, pointing out I haven't been banned anywhere that I know of and I quite often disagree with people.
