What's curious to me is the boy is refereeing the game, and the demon is playing. When I was desperate to play, I wanted to play.

So I wonder if this was an aware decision by the artist. Is the kid test-running his campaign to see how it plays?

I think you mean if only it were that quick, rather than easy. it seems more like higher pain/shorter time rather then longer time/less pain to transition, and if so, I agree, I wish I could be a hot goth girl tomorrow 🤭
