The Supreme Court has re-assumed their rightful place as elitist reactionaries. From Dred Scott to Plessy v. Ferguson to the New Deal, the main role of the Supreme Court has been to stand on the side of money and power against decency and equality. It is a fundamentally undemocratic institution that has assumed powers never granted to it by any law, and was allowed to do so because it is the last backstop for wealth and power against democratic popular will.
More power to them, we need collectives like this in every town and city. Build communities that exist to serve and support their members, not line the pockets of some already obscenely rich capitalist that has probably never even set foot locally.
What is the likelihood that the NCA will act? I’d love to see more global resistance against the treatment of the Uyghurs.
I’ve been trying to avoid purchasing Chinese imports for years. It’s near impossible in the US, but it will become easier with more nations reducing the global reliance on Chinese manufacturing. The Chinese treatment of the Uyghurs is horrific.
In Xinjiang, the government is the trafficker. Authorities use threats of physical violence, forcible drug intake, physical and sexual abuse, and torture to force detainees to work in adjacent or off-site factories or worksites producing garments, footwear, carpets, yarn, food products, holiday decorations, building materials, extractives, materials for solar power equipment and other renewable energy components, consumer electronics, bedding, hair products, cleaning supplies, personal protective equipment, face masks, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and other goods—and these goods are finding their way into businesses and homes around the world.
I only know what I read about the NCA but are they the right organization for the job when it comes to allegations against a foreign government of a crime committed under said governments jurisdiction? Im not aware of how international their scope is.
Recently some hallucinating z-blogger (allegedly, WarGonzo) posted that a group of british spec ops got deployed there, and how they are all pumped up to face them. Brits haven't even arrived, no surprise, but it seems the ouija board flipped over and hit this fortune-teller hard. Looking forward to his other predictions if that's the trend now.
Russian satellite breakup sends ISS astronauts to shelter
On Wednesday, June 26, 2024, shortly after 9 p.m. EDT, NASA instructed the nine astronauts aboard the International Space Station to head to their shelters. This precautionary measure was in response to the breakup of a Russian satellite, RESURS-P1. The astronauts spent about an hour in their shelters before it became clear the space station was not in the path of the debris.
More on RESURS-P1
According to Leo Labs, a California company that provides collision avoidance service and real-time conjunction alerts for satellite operators:
The approximately 6,000 kg [13,000 lb] satellite was in a nearly circular orbit at about 355 km [220 miles up] at the time of the event.
While it is not yet clear what caused the breakup of the Russian satellite, the satellite ended its service back in 2021. So what was previously one defunct space object is now more than 100 pieces. With the increasing amounts of satellites, both operational and past their useful lives, accumulating in orbit, the crowded space around Earth is becoming more and more of a concern. According to the Orbiting Now website, there are currently more than 10,000 active satellites in orbit around Earth, with nearly 3,000 inactive satellites still in orbit.
I mean... I hate what the fucker is doing to Ukraine.
But Russians have their spot in history in terms of great space exploration advancements.
They had a space station up there first. Before everyone else. The MIR. So.... I wouldn't doubt on their capability to put their own space station again.
