Here's a horror story for you. Before we went away on a break last week, I topped up the washer fluid in my VW T5. I used concentrated screenwash diluted with water from a container I store in the van.

Yesterday, I washed the screen and got hit with the worst rotten eggs/stinkbomb stench I've ever experienced.

I guessed that bacteria had grown in the washer bottle. We have commercial water testing kits, so I captured some in a plastic tray and tested it.

My van had fucking Legionnaires!!!!

The primary adversary most IT/sec shops are intended to defend against is auditors

@jerry Confirmed.

Source: multiple first hand direct experiences of being asked to advise on doing things right, only to see things descoped into doing just enough to address outstanding audit remarks, often scraping through on a technicality.

@ElleGray This is timely for me - I've spent the past couple of weeks doing statistical analysis on LinkedIn posts as part of my day job and now I just want to distance myself from the tech industry completely.

    No joke.

I'm going to tell people I'm a people trafficker. It's less embarrassing.

    FREE CASSETTE DECK!

Here's the deal: I have too many decks and I want to give one away, along with 20 cassettes.

Why? I love the format, I love the ritual, I love the analogue warmth, and I love introducing people to what tape sounds like on a really good deck. The fully serviced Sony 3 head Dolby S deck has a headphone socket, so you won't even need an amp or speakers.

only (sorry) and all you need to do is reply with what you want to play on it and I'll pick one.

    Easy!

Hey, Mastodon! Indiana's attorney general has created an anti-teacher snitch portal for people to report school teachers for being too woke. It allows you to upload files and everything!

There appears to be no safeguard against entering any text you want in any of the boxes, and no location/residence checking.

Dare I ask you to do your thing?

    Boosts welcome!

@ergative I hope they enjoy the reference imagery (just so they know what to look out for) submitted by Hugh Janus.

In 1967 the first radio pulsars were discovered by student Jocelyn Bell.

In 1974, this incredible discovery was finally recognised and Antony Hewish was awarded the Nobel Prize for Not Being Jocelyn Bell Burnell.

In 1979, my parents (a nurse and a car factory worker) allowed themselves a rare indulgence and bought a very expensive (£389.99) National Panasonic SG-5070 music centre.

For context, £389 was twice what they paid for their car and 10% of what they paid for their house!

It replaced the TV as their focus and music became their 'thing' at weekends and whenever shift patterns allowed.

It's taken me a decade to build this from many broken donors, but today it's finished.

    I could cry right now.
