This graphic literally includes three more people aside from Pelosi. it is doing the opposite of what you're frustrated about. it would be more bizarre if it didn't list the congressperson who is most notable for profiting from insider trading.

people do pay for discord though. that was the entire justification for Nitro and Server Boosts. they made $440 million in revenue in 2022. they aren't publicly traded so there's no way to compare that with expenses, but i'd be pretty surprised if they weren't turning a significant profit.

Should probably add that Israel propped up Hamas specifically because they made for a more unsympathetic enemy than the more moderate groups in the region.

he was using a singapore VPN and had access to multiple sockpuppets. we know literally nothing else about them and anything you've heard to the contrary is baseless rumor.

leading theory is that it was a state-sponsored actor, but frankly even that much is speculation and which state is still way up in the air.

underisk ,

we know about the singapore VPN because they connected to IRC on libera chat with it. the only reason I can think people would believe they're from hong kong is because of the pseudonym they used, but it's not like that proves anything.

I don't foresee anyone with the kind of data needed to do more investigation releasing it to the public, so I doubt we're going to be getting any satisfying answers to this. Microsoft may have an internal team combing through github logs, but if they find anything they're unlikely to be sharing it with anyone but law enforcement agencies.

nothing on this page mentions anything about Ozempic, semaglutide, or the amounts of funding received. the closest thing is a list of current diabetes research projects with, again, no amounts listed and no clear relation to ozempic.

If you have the power to unilaterally hinder a genocide and instead you use that power to enable it, you are culpable.

underisk ,
@underisk@lemmy.ml avatar

Sure, just the one with the most ability to act on his own. His culpability is proportional to that. He's used that ability previously to aid Israel, he could use that same power to hinder them, but chooses not to.

Trump Might Be Too Broke for a $175 Million Bond, Too ( newrepublic.com )

A New York appeals court on Monday reduced the $454 million that former President Donald Trump was required to put up while he appeals his civil fraud case. Now Trump must put up, by April 4, a mere $175 million. The trouble is, he may not get a bond for that amount, either. Should that happen, this act of judicial mercy will...

One day I hope to be as broke as Donald Trump; where nearly 200 million dollars “might” be unobtainable.

The House GOP just gave Biden’s campaign a huge gift: Roughly 80 percent of House Republicans just lined up behind a plan to cut Social Security and ban all abortions ( www.vox.com )

Donald Trump would be on track to win a historic landslide in November — if so many US voters didn’t find him personally repugnant....

underisk ,
@underisk@lemmy.ml avatar

He lost by an extremely thin margin in 2020 and that was on the back of COVID and before people had a chance to experience four years of Biden. I have no idea how you're this confident. Does this look promising to you?

And before you all jump down my throat thinking I want Trump to win: I hate that fucker and hope he dies before the election.

Opinion | Elon Musk Is Preoccupied With Something He Doesn’t Understand ( www.nytimes.com )

There is no particular mystery to unravel around the political views of Elon Musk, the billionaire technology and social media executive. DOJ says police officer justified in killing 22 y/o over 2 magic mushroom chocolate bars. ( www.delawareonline.com )

An undercover police officer arranged to buy 2 magic mushroom chocolate bars over Instagram then opened fire within seconds, killing the driver and injuring the passenger for selling $100 worth of antidepressants. Perfectly justified.

Private jets should not exist. As a source of tax revenue or otherwise. The fact that there are tax write offs rather than penalties for using them is just mind boggling.

underisk , (edited )
@underisk@lemmy.ml avatar

It's a pretty bad tactic because while it may let you take credit for improving some people's lives, you're also giving tacit permission for those worse off to blame you for it. This only works if the majority of people are better off than they were four years ago and recognize that they are. That's probably not a safe assumption when we've got record inflation and dipped close to, if not into, a recession. Just think of all the mass layoffs you heard about over the past four years.

What’s your age cutoff for young adult? Voters under 49 make up about half the electorate. Voters under 29 are comparable in number to those over 65. It makes about as much sense to court the youth vote as it does the elderly, but I’ve seen no one imply that it’s a waste to appeal to the latter.

This isn’t a new program, it’s an extension of a program signed into law by GWB. Go ahead and tell me all about how the republicans are obstructing it though. While you’re at it, go look up who’s responsible for making it impossible to discharge student loan debt through bankruptcy.

Appreciation post for db0 admins in light of .world blocking /c/ piracy and similar /c/'s .

I understand why they did what they did and it makes me think of how db0 and other admins are saying fuck all and taking a very big liability for making and supporting a free internet and i want to say all the work you do is very much appreciated. Also shoutout to lemmy.ml admins for running a similar community on their own ....

@underisk@lemmy.ml avatar

Legally I think they’d probably be exempted from liability as a common carrier, similar to how your email server isn’t going to get sued if you mail someone a link to piracy. I doubt they’re interested in testing that theory though.

underisk , (edited )
@underisk@lemmy.ml avatar

I don’t think comparing a federated message board to smuggling drugs is as fair a comparison as say email or Usenet, also federated services which have both been granted common carrier in the past, but go off I guess.

underisk ,
@underisk@lemmy.ml avatar

In fairness I may be mistaken. It seems ISPs were extended common carrier protections in relation to hosting Usenet and email and I conflated that with the protocols themselves. Either way it was a long time ago and I doubt they’d extend those protections to generic web platforms these days, but I’d sure like someone to set a precedent for it.

There are UV reactive tattoo inks. Not exactly the same but pretty close, and probably safer than trying to manipulate your genes.

underisk ,
@underisk@lemmy.ml avatar

UV tattoo ink is one of the only inks that have been approved by the FDA (for animal use). They've been used for a long time in livestock. Not that that should make you comfortable with sticking it into your skin or anything, but it's probably not quite the same as powdering your face with radium.

While we're on the subject of historically misguided applications of radioactive materials: ever heard of uranium glass? People get real weird around spicy rocks.

What are Some Good, Recent, and Available Dumb Cars?

I have a 2010 Toyota Corolla. She's been my trusty steed for the last 14 years and is in good working order. I recognize she won't last forever, and if, god forbid (mostly for her) I get in an accident, I will need to get a new car. So what dumb cars do you drive, and what would you replace them with?

underisk ,
@underisk@lemmy.ml avatar

just having a couple brands and models to look into is pretty helpful. I know i'm sick to death of massive screens with touchscreen buttons for everything. i drive my step mother's recent model BMW sometimes and trying to just change the radio station is a chore that involves clicking accept on a screen with a huge disclaimer warning you not to get distracted by the touchscreen while driving before you can even operate it.
