Reenacting Memory: Waterloo 200.

There was something about this event that "haunted" me.

For weeks afterwards I would look at a new post featured more incredible photos. I could not help but look and slide down that rabbit hole.

And just like that our Waterloo 200 adventure was over and the next day we would return home.

From the time I joined the hobby, I had stories of Waterloo '90 and Waterloo '95.

Well now I had Waterloo 2015 and am looking ahead to Waterloo 2025!

At Waterloo 200, this is when the various Royal Scots in our battalion gathered for a memorial close to the spot they stood 200 years previously.

Re-enacting Memory: 9 years ago today, Day 2 of Waterloo 200.

We were defending the Hougoumont structure.

There was not much left of the walls after the battle moved away from us!

Waterloo 200 in 2015.

The first battle on the evening of the 19th.

Experienced that "oh damn!" feeling when forced to remain in square with cavalry milling nearby and infantry coming up to pound us.

Waterloo 200 in 2015.

Everyone had come a long way to help commemorate this battle.

On the 18th was the armies final preparations. The 19th fell on a Friday and was to be the first battle reenactment.

Reenacting memory: Waterloo 200/2015.

Waterloo is often described as a small battlefield. 6000 reenactors viewed by 50,000+ used a small portion of the battlefield and we were swallowed by its immensity!

Something not many folks have seen!

INSIDE the courtyard at La Haye Sainte.

In 2015 it was on our route to the battlefield but the column stalled as a cannon broke a little ramp/bridge on the other side.

Gave us a chance for a look around!

In 2015, the 18th was for arrivals, drill and their big light show.

The battle recreations were to fall on the evenings of the 19th and 20th (Friday & Saturday) to maximize the crowds.

6 Years ago - 2018.

Reenacting Memory: 2019 Stoney Creek.

1806 the 27th Regiment were in Maida in Southern Italy.

Supposedly they were bathing in the sea when the French attacked. They responded going into a battle wearing only their belts and carrying their muskets earning the nickname the “Skins”.
