Anyone making bullshit kneejerk accusations of AI use against artists working on the new D&D books can seriously go fuck themselves. I am so done with this shit.

Shiny!

I am hugely enamored of the updated dragon designs, which kick several kinds of ass.

On the Insane Angel Studios blog! The shortest distance between two points in a campaign is always a straight line — but what can you do when the players and characters decide to take a more circuitous route?

A new design diary talks about lineages, how your choice of lineage traits shapes your character’s relationship to their line, and how the CORE20 system mysteriously inspired another system entirely.

This is Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks talking about the amazing opportunities to use AI in D&D and Magic: The Gathering.

I would very, very, very much like Chris Cocks to fuck off straight into the goddamn sun.

The is a new approach to d20 fantasy, built on a foundation of freeform characters with no classes and no levels. It turns the aging “pass/fail” core d20 mechanic into fuel for shared storytelling — and you can play it right now!

More than just a preview, the public playtest package for the includes the full “Playtest Player’s Guide” and “Playtest Magic Grimoire” — the entirety of the player-and-GM-facing rules of the game — plus a 180-strong creature package and guidelines for GMs. Game on!

At Winter Fantasy. Played my first at-table game (as opposed to playing online) in ages. Needed to cough at one point. Started instinctively looking around for the mute button.

Jennell Jaquays gave so, so much to the fantasy TTRPG hobby and industry, from the very beginnings of both. Even if her name isn’t on the game you play, even for gamers who’ve never heard her name — say a quiet thank you tonight for all she did.

I’m reading the new “Lore & Legends,” and every time “D&D” appears, the too-small ampersand and the off-center kerning make me apoplectic.

@scottfgray On the second page, it's using the full height ampersand in running text, but the small caps ampersand in small caps titles. The trouble with that is, you only use small caps ampersands in small caps abbreviations, like if your house style is to write "AT&T" in small caps. If you're using normal, full height caps for the A and the T's, the ampersand has to be full height, too.

@scottfgray As for the first page, I wonder whether they originally had "Dungeons & Dragons" spelled out in both instances on that page, small capped as they like to do, and someone find/replaced them to "D&D" without changing the style.
