I only use ! and/or ? in odd amounts

e.g. “right???” or “good luck!!!!!” or “how!?!”

mycrowgirl ,
@mycrowgirl@mastodon.social avatar

@asl @nathanlovestrees I’m totally in agreement about the superiority of odd nr quantities… with a caveat: some things are better by the (1) dozen - an even quantity technically but an odd unit.

The coyote babies are back!!! And my window is too dirty to get good shots! 😅 There’s a pack that lives in the pastures around our home and it’s a joy each year to hear the yip yodels of the smols as they mature into big yotes. We don’t see them often but once in a while they will gambol and play in our back yard. We have a fence along that part of the land just to keep neighbouring cattle from wandering in, but maintain loads of access points for wildlife to travel as freely as possible.

New to our family, sandwich rolls: lavash, mayo, lettuce, prosciutto, havarti cheese. I am trying to find foods Drew can eat since he is not using his left hand very often. Regular sandwiches are a mess since he can’t tell the strength of his grip in his right hand. A firm hold means the sandwich filling falls out. Same for burgers now. Yay for Trader Joe’s lavash - only $2.49 for a large package. 2 pieces for 8 rolls. And it worked well.

mycrowgirl ,
@mycrowgirl@mastodon.social avatar

@cobalt are you looking for food that is easy to chew/swallow or food that is easy to grasp by hand or spoon/fork?

mycrowgirl ,
@mycrowgirl@mastodon.social avatar

@cobalt OK, here are some things that have worked for me: I made most of the same food I would normally make, but whenever possible in mini. For example sliders instead of burgers. I also turned their portions into little bite size “casseroles” if there was tricky food like rice or peas. Basically (tossing the cut up food with a little fork-whisked egg, small scoops into those silicon cupcake molds and microwaving until set).

mycrowgirl ,
@mycrowgirl@mastodon.social avatar

@cobalt I also found that these silicon bowls are sturdy and flex but won’t completely collapse if they grip too hard. It’s helpful to split the full meal into smaller bite size portions divided into multiple bowls so they don’t get overwhelmed when there’s still a ton of food in front of them. The bowl can be used to make the little microwaved casseroles too, and bonus that they don’t break if they get thrown during a meltdown.

@cobalt LOL, everyone who has cared for an adult loved one with dementia eventually has that moment where they realise regular tableware is no longer a great idea 😅🫠.

mycrowgirl ,
@mycrowgirl@mastodon.social avatar

@nathanlovestrees @cobalt good point on the textures. like pureed soups or thick stews is fine but a broth soup with veggie/meat bits was a struggle.

A cluster of plants with vibrant green leaves, sturdy long stems, and topped with daisy-like flowers that have short white petals and dense yellow centres. The entire cluster is covered in various pollinators stopping by for a snack.

(I’m still not sure how the heck they survive in 90° + temperatures in black metal tubes. The cuban tree frogs are hardcore.)

    I hadn't seen our resident otters in a while, which was giving me a sad. Today, while doing dishes, I looked up and saw two adults and three wee pups!

    Apparently Emmett found a missus and started a family! We have an old cattle pond at the north corner of our property and that bank has been Emmett's preferred potty area... as you can see by this picture, he's passing that tradition on to his family :D Potato quality pic through dirty window, but glad I managed to grab the camera in time!

    An adult otter in tall grasses rushes back into the pond, just out of frame to the left. It is being followed by its three young pups.
