Long time software engineer now AGI researcher. Master gardener. #artificialIntelligence #music #nativeGardens #cancerSurvivor #basicIncome #stoic Expect pithy hot-takes that sound hilarious in my head. I like to eat standing up.

This apparently is not as obvious as I thought:

  • exclamation marks and emojis: sincerity
  • deadpan: sarcasm more often than not

If you have not yet watched John Oliver’s presentation of the plans for Trump’s second term, I recommend you do.

Yes, it is a comedy show, but the facts presented are extremely important and eye opening.

Last Week Tonight is on Max, but if you are not a subscriber, there is a 30 minute version of the show here on YouTube:

Thou shalt separate church & state, you power-hungry ChristoFascists.

#Louisiana has become the first state to require that the Ten Commandments be displayed in every public school classroom under a bill signed into law by Republican Gov. Jeff Landry”

Teaching about slavery in schools and doing it well isn’t just about teaching the harshness of slavery. And educators can make #Juneteenth about so much more than the end of slavery.

Today’s holiday offers abundant opportunities to teach about what it means to fight for freedom and maintain a sense of self-determination in the face of oppression.

I've largely dismissed the strain of AI alarmism based on the notion the a computer will be so smart that the danger it poses to humanity is outsmarting us.

There are real dangers in AI, most of them relate to people using these technologies in improper ways due to having a poor understanding of what they really are... and most important the exploitation & degradation of the human body of knowledge creativity represented by publicly available digital information. 1/

@futurebird funny you should say, because I'm just starting a research project to study and recreate intelligence in this way (hopefully). I was thinking starting with bees instead of ants, but that's because I want to start in 3d.

TODAY IS THE DAY.

We're in Washington now and arrive in #Canada this afternoon. 🇨🇦

Our new home.

It's surreal, scary, wonderful.

My posting will be light until we're settled in a little.

Thank you for all your amazing replies and good wishes. I read them all, but can't reply back.

Big hugs to all of you. 🥰

A major US state just achieved a critical milestone for nearly two weeks: 'It's wild that this isn't getting more news coverage'

" has set a benchmark for , with wind, solar, hydro, and geothermal supplying 100% of the state's electricity demand for 25 out of the last 32 days (and counting)."

Boeing's outgoing CEO could get "golden parachute" worth as much as $45 million.

The CEO before him got one worth $62 million on his way out the door in 2019.

America has socialism for the rich, harsh capitalism for everyone else.

Apple’s journaling app! (If I’m trapped in a “walled garden” might as well check out the plants.) The app uses location, photo and other data to suggest events to journal about— The photos help jog memory & make writing less daunting.

I hope that more apps make use of the api — although wouldn’t it be nice if it were an open “event” protocol instead? (and if one could export journals to, tumblr)

I think this app could really help many people I know with memory and organization issues.

@futurebird @lambic I think the problem here is that very quickly it would be pointed out how bad these predictions are, compared to how they are touted to advertisers. (Sure they would probably nail a few things, but overall they're likely pretty crappy.) And even though the feedback might help the companies improve their algos, the hit to their reputations is too much to swallow. On the bright side, these companies probably don't know as much about as they think. Then again, how they're wrong will end up becoming our problem.
