My name is Marvin and I live in Bielefeld (Germany) currently working as a #sysadmin at a small ISP. I also self-publish books from time to time.

Most of my free-time, however, is spent doing #photography — mostly of #birds and, sometimes, other types of wildlife.

I will mostly be posting photos of birds or other bird-related content on this account, but I will also — at times — post stuff about languages and computers. I post mainly in English and German.

An here's another photo of the adult Little Grebe carrying ... something in its beak. I find them quite pretty in their breeding plumage, despite the rather muted colour palette.

A photo of an adult Little Grebe swimming in the water photographed in profile. It has something in its beak. The bird is wearing its breeding plumage. Its neck is brown whereas the rest of its body is mostly black / grey with a little bit of white on its very fluffy but barely visible tail. Its beak is pointy and the underside has a white spot.

    Another photo of the male Common Merganser I saw today. I never know how to take photos of these guys, they’re too contrasty 😅

    A male Common Merganser photographed in profile swimming in the water. Its head is mostly black with few iridescent colours and its beak is curved at the tip and red. The rest of its body is mostly white with some of its wing feathers being black. The contrast between the white body and black head make it difficult for me to properly expose the bird.

    Does anyone know of a good (preferably free) tool / script that can sort photos into folders for year and month automatically by using the photos’ metadata? Seems like something that should be relatively simple.

    @mjohanning https://exiftool.org/ look no further. There is also a GUI available (look for "exiftoolgui")
