Interesting. I use rss for the same thing.

I was able to get the Zelda one working via compiling the tool with the assets. With the new tooling, has anyone been able to get any other games working?

mesamunefire ,

The tool is pretty easy to compile: https://github.com/Mr-Wiseguy/N64Recomp/issues/20

The issue is getting the elf and assets files. z64 files are easy to get/find/generate. Thats about all I know.

mesamunefire ,

Gitlab is also thinking of going to federation. It will be interesting as git is already a federated protocol, now our prs, follows, stars, ect will also be federated between different instances.

mesamunefire ,

I know rss works but not sure about base lemmy.

mesamunefire ,

Interesting, should be a good test of our grid.

mesamunefire ,

City of Fresno was seriously thinking of changing out the power to local government over the cost.

mesamunefire ,

It's not kuberneties, but I run a family sized yunohost. It's great at installing and updating webapps. They have an awesome selection of federation apps like mastodon, writefreely, misskey, bookwyrm, and more.

For less than 5 users, I personally don't need kub, but it f I were to scale I would probably go that direction.

Where can I buy ebooks that will actually be mine for life?

I'm looking to change my reading and buying habits away from Amazon and need an alternate source for my ebooks. Where can I buy ebooks that won't expire or have their licence revoked and will allow me to download a copy of that ebook I can store on my own system regardless of the websites status?

mesamunefire ,

If you get it off Amazon, you can use Calibre to download the ebook. Then convert to ebook .epub and now it's yours forever. I don't like this but some books are not possible to get it legally without Amazon.

Or use baen to buy. Or if your really lucky off the authors official website.

mesamunefire ,

Baens library has been doing this for the past 25(?) years. They even have a free library. https://www.baen.com/catalog/category/view/s/free-library/id/2012

mesamunefire ,

That's terrible, thanks for the he heads up.

mesamunefire ,

I've never received a job directly from it, but I've had prospective employers search my profile.

mesamunefire ,

It's been a while though...I hope it's coming soon.

mesamunefire ,

Repairable earbuds are now here, so that's pretty cool.
https://shop.fairphone.com/fairbuds

It's not for me because I like wired but it's much better than apples.

mesamunefire ,

Personally I like the muse headphones. Absolutely fantastic range for the price and if you are actually looking for audio quality + repairable they are great. The build quality is also top notch and compare with the $500+ range headphones. I don't like how apples sound tbh. For that price it should sound better.

For everything else I just get wired or target brand wireless. The target brand for less than 10$ has lasted over 4 years lol.

mesamunefire OP ,

I was just able to compile the project. The comments on the asm are kinda amazing. It's really detailed.

mesamunefire ,

That's going to mess up a lot of Google searches.

YSK : Dark patterns among large companies are becoming more mainstream ( youtu.be )

While it is no secret that exploitative practices are interlaced with capitalistic tendencies, the practices are becoming intolerable. Signing up to pay usually takes only two clicks that are prominently visible whereas cancelation options are hidden away in deep settings requiring multiple clicks. Pricing often feel arbitrary...

You can't cancel T-Mobile on their site, they require you to call. Even then I got no email verification nor letter about the cancellation. Cool...

This may be the wrong place to ask, but- Does anyone know of a reputable service that would turn a decades-old print book into an eBook?

In the 1980s, my father wrote a book that an analysis and annotation of another well-known book which is now in the public domain. My family owns the rights to this annotation (we checked with the press that put it out). I think it would make a really good eBook if someone wanted to scan it all in, digitize it, and turn all the...

mesamunefire ,

I think archive.org had something where you could donate a material to get it put into the archive as an ebook. I don't know what happened to that program.

I might have found it: https://help.archive.org/help/how-do-i-make-a-physical-donation-to-the-internet-archive/

If this was me, I would give them an email on what the process entails and if you can get the material back.

Looks like comments dont work from a mastodon post. Oh well.

If anyone wants to take a look: https://github.com/XK9274/wesnoth/releases/tag/v2.0 Big shout out to XK and Vitty85 on discord for helping me and doing a majority of the work.

It's a fun little console. Onion works really well.

    mesamunefire ,

We used a ps4 controller as a mouse on our tv/media center. Its wired/Bluetooth and comes in as a mouse on our Linux box. No setup, just connect and it works.

What is the official website for the Miyoo Mini Plus

Ive been looking into getting a retro gaming handheld and the miyoo mini plus looks a really great and has a dedicated community with a nice linux OS (Onion OS) so I think it might be the best option but I can’t find the official website to order it from. There’s a ton of websites when googling and multiple have miyoo in the...

    mesamunefire ,

I got mine off amazon because of the return policy. But you can get it on AliExpress as someone else stated. Its their official listing from what I understand.

    mesamunefire ,

Archive.org is such a good service.

Thanks for all the hard work so the rest of us can enjoy.

    mesamunefire ,

I tried running my own instance. Got it setup, got an account, then started to follow communities. I couldn't get it to work with lemmy world and done of the bigger instances. I gave up after a weekend. It's unfortunate, the invites were stuck in pending for about a week or so.

I'm still using this server, but would like my own as that would ever do slightly help with this servers bandwidth.

    mesamunefire ,

I'll try it again when I have motivation. Personally I just get weekends to do this sort of things. And with work wanting overtime..yeah I'll prob get around to it in 2025.

    mesamunefire ,

One of the biggest complaints with reddit was the artificial up/down score that they changed your ability to see. I would like us to at least keep up/down votes as an option.

Also great idea letting the user decide what they want. Kudos to the team.

    mesamunefire ,

I want to be part of matrix but don't know where to start. Any retro-gaming matrix?

    mesamunefire ,

"Earlier this week, Reddit disclosed in a corporate filing that CEO Steve Hoffman sold 500,000 shares, and Reddit COO Jennifer Wong also disclosed that she sold 514,000 shares."

If they believed in the platform, they would hold. Yeah looks like they are looking for bag holders.

    mesamunefire OP ,

From what I understand they are all partners. I've had a couple respond to my comments. I hope it's not stolen.

    mesamunefire OP ,

For self hosting, I like yunohost. Its been pretty easy as long as you dont have a huge amount of people using it.

AWS still is king when it comes to cheap cloud providers.
