@futurebird Io for its volcanism and awesome view of Jupiter.

I’m going to go shower now and when I get back, I’d like nothing more than to see all positive replies in my feed instead of the doom I’m seeing now.

Take the challenge.

@GottaLaff read @Teri_Kanefield and just forget about pundits and media. Democracies have self-destruction built-in, everyone* needs to do the grinding work of keeping it alive.

*except for those destroying it, of course.

@GottaLaff not sure how the line of questioning that demonstrates “Trump organization surely employs a lots of crooks” can go well with the Jury…

CREW:

The fact that Tim Scott is refusing to say he’d follow the law and not try to overthrow the results of a free and fair election should scare anyone listening. This is how democracies end.

👇🏼
WELKER: Will you commit to accepting the 2024 election results?

TIM SCOTT: At the end of the day, the 47th president will be Donald Trump

WELKER: Wait -- yes or no, will you accept the results?

TIM SCOTT: That is my statement

    I saw this quote the other day and haven’t stopped thinking about it since: “Dystopian fiction is when you take things that happen in real life to marginalized populations and apply them to people with privilege.” https://twitter.com/Hugo_Book_Club/status/1428729860676067328

    @kottke I have a similar epiphany from @pluralistic: https://pluralistic.net/2024/02/14/minnesota-nice/

    «Here's how the shitty technology adoption curve works: when you want to roll out a new, abusive technology, look for a group of vulnerable people whose complaints are roundly ignored and subject them to your bad idea. Sand the rough edges off on their bodies and lives. Normalize the technological abuse you seek to inflict.»

    juandesant ,
    @juandesant@astrodon.social avatar

    @kottke «Next: work your way up the privilege gradient. Maybe you start with prisoners, then work your way up to asylum seekers, parolees and mental patients. Then try it on kids and gig workers. Now, college students and blue collar workers. Climb that curve, bit by bit, until you've reached its apex and everyone is living with your shitty technology.»

    I would like to know if @pluralistic was inspired by someone else, or is his own observation.

    @pluralistic

    "...as cunning strategies go, the hamfisted tactics of FB, Twitter and Tiktok make gambits like "Lucy and the football" look like von Clausewitz."

    I laughed out loud at that one, thank you.

    @BustaMarx @pluralistic I am afraid my laugh ended when I read the linked piece on private equity… I’m not sure why such disgraceful practice is even legal. The picture painted in https://pluralistic.net/2023/04/26/death-panels/ (via https://pluralistic.net/2023/06/02/plunderers/) it’s is so bleak…

    From that article I learned what a charnel house is, and in the article it was related to nursing homes, so you get the idea…

    People, please stop telling me how to write my threads.

    I number each toot and hashtag the first one and occasionally subsequent ones. All you have to do is click on a toot to see which thread it is.

    The reporters also name the judge and lawyers in each toot, so how hard is that to figure out?

    If you can’t follow my simultaneous threads, and think you can do better, try writing your own. Let me know how that works out.

    juandesant ,
    @juandesant@astrodon.social avatar

    @GottaLaff I will never understand why people feel that they are entitled to tell people who are doing something for free that they should be doing it otherwise.

    Thanks for what you do, I always find it very informative.
