Ohhh a blackberry flower! I might get one blackberry if the birds don’t get to it first. 🍇✨👀💚🤭

Vertical snapshot of the area where the blackberry has been growing for a few years. It’s between two emerald arborvitae (evergreen) trees, and in the tree shade. There are some day-lilies. I’ve placed a couple of green support poles to upright the thorny blackberry vine. The small white flower I found is on the left of the center of the photo. The wooden fence in the background.

@otterX I have allowed a huge patch to grow close to the house and another smaller one farther away from the house "for the birds".

They are really producing this year despite the dryness. And the fruiting canes in "my" patch have bent down in such a way that I can gather without ending up needing an IV from the Red Cross. Those thorns are nasty.

IMO it is worth it if you can stand it. Maybe control the canes with some string or garden wire in the Spring to make them more accessible. 🍀

I was over on iNaturalist and saw your blue isopod thing. Are those things really all over? I love them. I've never seen one, maybe I'm too far south.

Complex flower with two slender light-yellow petals with maroon dots. The sepal forms a similarly-colored hood over the lip, maroon stripes under the hood. A light-yellow "lip" arises from the center, under a green-black tooth-shaped "anther cap", shaped in a cuplike formation, about 2 inches long.     About two dozen ducks, all brown with broad white and black stripes across the lower side and with orange beaks and white circles around the eye sit in thick aquatic plants covering the water's surface. They randomly bob their heads down to get food or water, lift their head up to swallow, flap wings, stand and look in a specific direction, adjust position, and scratch themselves with their feet. In the background, the sounds of many birds can be heard but sounds created by these ducks, if any, is difficult to discern.

    Unless you live in the U.S. Southeast, you would not expect to see the eerie "Little Sweet Betsy" or "Large Toadshade".

    🔪 Another name of interest to @ElizabethLeeCo is "Bloody Butcher".

    🌷 They are flowering right now, leaves, sepals and petals all in threes. From the unusual maroon flower without a stalk will come fruit and seed.

    I love this movie so hard & not enough horror fans have seen it. I'd also argue that--while it's definitely gory--being a Clive story, it's interesting gore w/ a narrative purpose. The goal isn't to try to make you barf or go to therapy.
