The analysis focused on massive blazes that release vast amts of energy from the organic matter burned. Researchers pointed to the of 2019 & 2020 as blazes that were “unprecedented in their scale & intensity.”

@Nonilex elsewhere in my feed today is @GottaLaff posting about mass shootings being statistically down, counter to perception. Statistics are always problematic - the defition of "extreme fire" and "mass shootings" are steps instead of a continuum.
I like @kathhayhoe's analogy of rolling the dice but now there are more sixes in your hand.
How many situations resulted in fires that simple didn't happen 100 years ago? It's impossible to know. But hurricane intensity is easier to chart. Tropical storms fizzle out over cooler waters, but now they're more likely to become a catastrophic hurricane. Same with mass shootings erupting because guns are so prevalent.
The arc of the [whatever] universe is long, so stop arguing about short-term statistics.

I should update those who have been kind enough to ask:

I’m finally all better! As of yesterday, I felt like my old self again.

We move into the new townhouse in Aug. We gave the sellers time to find a place to live, so we have to wait.

My car arrived yesterday! While Mr. Laffy was picking it up at the Canadian border, a drug bust took place within feet of him. Dogs sniffed out the culprit, and Mr. Laffy also got…sniffed!

We have no charger here. 24 hours later, my car is still plugged in

I was called for jury duty last summer on a murder trial. There were just over 100 prospective jurors. The pre-selection questionnaire was five pages (?). Selection of jurors took two weeks! I wasn't ever called up for questioning, but when they were done there were only about 10 of us left who hadn't.

According to reporting & judging from ’s social media, his camp is considering another motion to recuse Judge Juan Merchan on the basis of his daughter’s leadership of an online strategy firm that has, among other clients, worked for Biden & other Dem candidates.

Trump moved to recuse Merchan last May—and his daughter was the principal reason why.

I've blocked out the overwhelming stress of the first few weeks of the 45th term. Every day was a new executive order that was clearly unconstitutional and/or illegal. The "flood the zone" tactic was effective. There were too many things to keep track of. We just had to block it out for our own sanity.

Taking a closer look at the judgment entered Friday, the math becomes pretty clear.

For example, each day that convicted tax cheat and one-time Org CFO Allen Weisselberg doesn't pay up, he owes another $246.57 in interest.

That's on top of the $1,101,342.46 he owes today.

Similarly, Don Jr. and Eric Trump each owe an extra $989.51 with every passing day.

They're each on the hook for $4,662,144.37 right now.
