After having held numerous speeches on how he would lock up judges and “left thugs”, Trump suddenly realizes that his envisioned totalitarian regime might not be popular, and gives the “I never met that woman” treatment to his own people working on Project 2025.

The insecurity of this candidate is astounding.

@randahl FYI, Democrats, this is him showing a weakness.

Go after it!

He had a few lurches to the center at the that were notable to me.

Suddenly adopting a George W Bush era position on abortion with the whole exception clause? After striking it for almost a decade?

That tells us Republicans are SCARED. Scared at seeing backlash even among Republicans. Scared at how making law is galvanizing voters.

Remember OH and OK in 2023!

"What is happening in the mainstream American media in outlets like the New York Times, CNN, the Associated Press and beyond is disgraceful and beyond contempt. The free flow of disdain for Biden, Democratic voters, and the sanctity of public discourse is obvious to even the most casual observer."

@wdlindsy Personally, it’s been giving me flashbacks to the Reverend Wright “scandal” in terms of scale and absurdity.

Remember that? Weeks of telling Barack Obama he should quit a primary he was winning because of something his pastor said.

Republicans and Clinton wing Dems lined up to turn him into a punching bag over something completely irrelevant to the race. Because he was winning. And they were scared.

Sigh.

Via Sahil Kapur:

🚨 Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas, calls on Biden to WITHDRAW from the 2024 election. "Too much is at stake to risk a Trump victory," he says. "President Biden saved our democracy by delivering us from Trump in 2020. He must not deliver us to Trump in 2024."

@GottaLaff I invite a field organizer more knowledgeable than I to correct me if I’m wrong. But to me, talk about replacing now, w/ a late August convention? It’s just fantasy island.

Think of basic field logistics required to run a nationwide campaign: hiring and deploying organizers and recruiting volunteers for voter outreach (door knocking, phonebanking/textbanking, etc). This takes months!

Even something simple like yard signs would not be ready for early voting.

I hurt too, everyone. Deeply. Excruciatingly.

I hear you. I'm with you.

But honestly, some of your suggestions are completely unrealistic, violent, and/or not going to happen. I do understand the reason for them though.

I understand your gut reactions.

But let's keep our heads.

Biden is not going to do most of what you're wishing. Or maybe any of the things.

VOTE your asses off... somehow. Get everyone you know to do the same. & keep fighting hard for democracy.

Kthxbye.

@GottaLaff Thank you, Laffy. I’m with you. This panic helps no one. Especially on top of the debate freak out last week.

What we need in this election is citizenship work. People willing to commit time to stop scrolling and have productive conversations with neighbors in their community.

Our communities are our strength. They can protect in fascist overreach but they can also beat fascism. There are more of us than there are of them. That’s the reason for this extremism. Fear.

The Supreme Court has failed the constitution and the American people.

BUT we, the people, will ultimately deliver the final verdict.

@gwaldby Justice gave us a perfect phrase to use en masse to this summer.

President just echoed it.

We celebrate our from British monarchy this week. Nothing is more American than rejecting the divine right of kings.

A proposal: Post with strong condemnation of these rulings. Declare your support for American democratic ideals + this July 4th week. Power starts with us.

@GottaLaff Only thing I’ve wanted to see about 🍊 since January 6. Mindboggling this is for a crime committed 8 years ago.

Do we have to wait another 4 years to see him face consequences for an insurrection against the federal govt?
