I’m David. I live in Tacoma, Washington. I do square foot gardening, home automation with Home Assistant, and have too many cats.

You think you saw me behind some ferns? You just might have!

I'll bet that dog was the highlight of some people's weeks.

Don't worry, I'm sure we can come up with a way to explode the sun much sooner than that.

What's growing on, Beehaw?

We're halfway through potting up all the plants we've overwintered, but are looking at temps below freezing for the next two nights. Today will be about getting covers ready for everything and setting up ambient warmth for several of our plants that are currently flowering. On my way home from a doctor's appointment, I stopped...

It's a busy spring for me! This is year two in a new home, and I've started converting larger chunks of boring grass into wildlife gardens and raised beds. So far this year I've put together:

The Botany of Desire is a fantastic book and also documentary that discusses, in some part, plants being desirable to humans as a selective force. Plant species that humans value have a higher likelihood of surviving because we use them for agriculture, ensuring their ongoing existence. Everything from tea to teonanácatl!

I mean, it's the space-time continuum, it's connected! As the documentary Stargate SG-1 shows, we're well acquainted with spatial and chronological drift over interstellar distances.

Unfortunately so. They are an Eastern US species that has been moving ever westward.
And they are, in bird law terms, 'huge dicks'. They've been systematically kicking Spotted Owls out of their traditional roosting spots for about a decade now. Spotted Owls are pushovers, so they've been losing breeding ground.
And barred owls are not just dicks to other birds, they don't like humans much either.

A tiny sculpture of a solitary grouse in a field. The grouse menaces with spikes. The overall composition is realistic. This work represents terror. This representation relates to a Greater-Sage Grouse attacking the colony on 6th of Decembary, 5210.

Just your normal tavern drinking challenge offered by a reanimated skeleton proprietor! Quaff a flask of 'Bone Dry Rum' in under one turn of the timepiece without throwing up and you'll drink free for a year!

To be honest, would a spreadsheet not be a good use for this? There are FOSS asset trackers, but a simple .ods with a pictures column might serve you well.
Are there additional features/conveniences you are looking for?

I've got my greenhouse control setup with fun statistics in Home Assistant.

It's still getting dark early, so I can see it lit up from the house. https://orbiting.observer/pictrs/image/8d4b7695-fb28-4d06-b7a3-d0e2065bcaf4.jpeg

Sometimes I feel I'm standing in front of the window watching the plant babies a little too much.

I had everything inside last year and it started getting a little crazy! I like your greenhouse poly offcut idea, I'll have to check and see....

I'm growing my second generation of garlic, tomatoes, and jalapenos with seeds from last years harvest. The garlic is doing great which makes me very happy!

The legend of the 'Hell Courtesan' was about a beautiful courtesan, a daughter of a samurai, who was "kidnapped by his enemies and was sold to a brothel".
She started to call herself "Hell Courtesan" after an encounter with a Buddhist monk, Ikkyu Sojun, who was known for his taste for sake and prostitutes.
According to the story, Ikkyū met the Hell Courtesan during one of his visits to the pleasure district. Santō Kyōden's book from 1809, All Records of Drunken Enlightenment of Our Country, tells that she "found him dancing with a bunch of skeletons instead of being entertained by dancers and geisha. It occurred to her that he may not be an ordinary human being."
She then became his disciple and achieved enlightenment.

So I think they might actually be punk moshers from the underworld.

Also, "All Records of Drunken Enlightenment of Our Country" sounds like TMZ of the Japanese 1800's.

Just government drones. It works on paper since it's from renewable sources.... And if you squint real hard and don't look at the big picture of how it's actually working out (like this article).

A pizza stone can definitely help. You might also prebake the crust for a few minutes before adding sauce+toppings, it can help with soggy bottoms.
