After some conversations with friends NOT on the fediverse I've arrived at calling it "independent social media."

This is better than "open source" or other titles, it better conveys the central difference.

The words "under God" were added to the US Pledge of Allegiance in 1954, during the Cold War, under the Eisenhower administration, to mark a distinction between the USA and so-called 'godless' communism of the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China.

When people today quote "one nation, under God" as evidence that the founders of this country created a Christian Nationalist country, they are repeating historical inaccuracies. You are welcome to correct them.

That means we’ve used our entire carbon budget in this country for the full year. We have exceeded our Ecological Footprint.

So, as of today, no one will be driving ICE cars or flying on airplanes. All our fossil fuel power plants are shutting down until next January. No more single-use plastics for the rest of the year. Everything is getting delivered by bicycle or on foot, and —

— wait, what? It doesn’t mean that?

It means nothing changes at all? You mean we’ll still be polluting the atmosphere with greenhouse gases and poisoning our bodies with microplastics?

Nothing changes? Nothing??!!

Did you know? The word “trumpery” appeared in the 15th century with the meanings “deceit” or “fraud”. 100 years later, it was being applied to objects of no value. Then in the 1900’s, it came to mean “showy but worthless”. Today, it is equated with “treasonous shitweasel”.

When you react to criticism of with "so I guess you want then," you completely miss the point. I want Biden to drop out because I don't want Trump to be president again. I cannot and will not vote for Biden and there are a lot of people like me who feel the same way. This is a warning about what is about to come about. Screaming and stamping your feet isn't going to change that.

@PaulDitz and getting mad when Trump wins because you couldn't swallow a bitter pill and vote for whoever his opposition ends up being isn't going to change his winning being your fault, either.

We cannot have trump again. Whatever your grievances with Biden, they are of secondary importance next to keeping that fucker out of office because it'll likely be the last election we get.

@PaulDitz Biden isn't committing genocide. Biden is not Netanyahu.

But I have the feeling nothing I say here will matter to you. We get Trump again, I'm pointing fingers at your camp for it.
