In typical Republican fashion, they apply the rules they like and try to burn down the rules they don't. After all taxpayer money for corporate America and private, Christian education good, money going to "the poors" bad.

Pretty sure renting is what townhouses and apartments are for. Single family homes don't need to be rentals at the rates they are now.

Help with IPv6

My ISP recently made IPv6 available and I'm trying to figure out how to make it work with my network. The setup I have is an OPNsense box connected to my ISP's router and I'm using it to isolate my homelab from the rest of the network. However, the machines on my OPNsense LAN aren't being assigned IPv6 addresses that allow them...

Prefix ID of 0x1 means "Use the first prefix available in the block as a /64 for the LAN". Essentially your ISP probably gave you a /48, /56, or /60. The firewall is giving prefix IDs to all of the /64s you can fit inside of one of these and allocating them numbers 1 through whatever. Each LAN you have can have its own prefix ID. A /60 has 16 /64 networks that you can subnet it into.

chronicledmonocle ,

If you're getting a /64 from your ISP via DHCPv6, you likely need to send a prefix hint. I'd guess /60. Then you'll have multiple /64s to work with on your inside interfaces.

Who is the ISP?

Anybody talkin' bad about Dolly gets a good ol' fashioned ass whoopin'. She's a national treasure on the level of Mr. Rogers.

Not only a black man, but a gay black man. Although, he wasn't out as gay back then. Imagine their heads exploding if that had been known.

Conservatives are quite the special snowflakes.

chronicledmonocle ,

I dunno. Racism, sexism, and Christian Nationalism is very on-brand "American". At least for Republicans.

It's just Liberals have a "Let's move forward and improve" view of the American way of life and Republicans want to go back to the Dark Ages.

Honestly surprised he didn't capture his tears into little vials and sell them.

chronicledmonocle ,

Because nobody has ever been led astray by information on the internet. It's all full of truth and only has good things on it. Certainly couldn't affect a young mind to persuasion.

chronicledmonocle ,

Hey at least we have social security to look forward to, right guys? Haha......right? Why you looking at me like that?

chronicledmonocle ,

Because nothing ever bad came of forcing people into a single religion. Certainly not Christianity......cough Crusades cough

$20 says it was shoddy wiring or something similar. So many deaths and accidents happen in India because of a lack of safety standards and training there.

And before someone tries to call me racist, or anti-India, or something, India accounts for 14% of all accidental deaths worldwide and out of every 100k workers in India, 116.8 on average will die in a workplace accident, which is 3X higher than the #2 spot (Pakistan).

Lol as an American, good luck with that. You'll probably have some "good times" in early to mid-stage capitalism. Then, you'll reach late stage and realize it's all rigged.

chronicledmonocle ,

I feel ya. My wife's loans went from $750 a month to $110. Way easier to swallow.

chronicledmonocle ,

Yeah I couldn't really either. I'd have been in dire financial straits if I'd been forced to pay $750 for very long. I'm a single income father of three.

Probably went to a Christian school where they teach the Earth is 6000 years old and Jesus was around at the same time as dinosaurs.

‘My whole library is wiped out’: what it means to own movies and TV in the age of streaming services ( www.theguardian.com )

*What rights do you have to the digital movies, TV shows and music you buy online? That question was on the minds of Telstra TV Box Office customers this month after the company announced it would shut down the service in June. Customers were told that unless they moved over to another service, Fetch, they would no longer be...

If purchasing isn't ownership, piracy isn't stealing.

Any Linux distro with Flex Launcher and an Air Mouse+Keyboard Remote.

This is what my HTPC looks like currently:
https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/520752b0-4263-4d4b-b7a5-3096b7715260.jpeg

chronicledmonocle ,

I considered this, but ended up going HTPC instead. The Shield is just too old and now they're loading it up with more ads you can't get rid of. Screw that.

chronicledmonocle ,

For full screen web pages, I'm using Chromium and the --kiosk and --full-screen flags in the launch command. This removes the title bar and such and just loads the web site in full screen. I only use this and the AirMouse for Netflix and PBS. Everything else works with just the remote's arrow keys (Steam, Plex HTPC, Jellyfin, ES-DE, etc.).

I'm using this AirMouse from Gimbi. This plus AutoHotKey to remap a few buttons and the 4 programmable buttons at the bottom for TV and soundbar controls work for me pretty well. I mapped the ! button to Alt+F4, the search button to the super key, etc. The programmable buttons are TV Input, TV Select, and Soundbar Vol+ / Vol-.

I think the wallpaper was a built in one for the Cinnamon desktop, but I'll try and find it and link it here.

If it stops the legislature from being paralyzed and gives Democrats leverage, it's certainly better than the alternative. But no.....it's not ideal.

chronicledmonocle ,

As with anything GOP-related, if they're projecting it onto Democrats, they're guilty of it themselves.

Grooming children? Catholic church, which is largely Republicans in America

Anti-LGBTQ+? The number of GOP members who have been caught with same sex partners of both underage and adult varieties makes that laughable.

Pro-life? Several GOP members have secretly paid for abortions.

Economy crashes or stalls? It's because of policies that a Republican-led government made before handing the mess off to a Democrat.

I'll bet cash money this guy has a clan outfit in his closet.

chronicledmonocle ,

While I agree, "I'm better that the other guy" might not motivate enough people to the polls. It SHOULD because Trump is a fascist nutter, but people are so stupid it's incredible.

chronicledmonocle ,

You're failing to understand because people are near-braindead levels of stupid. Democracy only works when the populous is generally well educated. We've been shooting ourselves in the foot in regards to education for a long time in this country that most people come out with the intelligence of a 5th grader, then say stupid things like "Trump is better than Biden".

chronicledmonocle ,

No they just murder dissenters and invade independent countries unprovoked.

Don't act like Russia is somehow better than the US's fuckery.

chronicledmonocle ,

Lol what? The country that consistently tries to influence elections through manipulating social media and creating fake news for idiot Americans to fall for?

America is not innocent and has done JUST as bad of things as Russia, but to say Russia is somehow "not guilty of global interference" is some grade-A bullshit.

chronicledmonocle ,

Host your own Wireguard endpoint on any cloud provider. They give you elastic IPs that you can create 1:1 NATs for your hosts. Maybe not quite as clean, but effectively the same thing.

chronicledmonocle ,

If the company is able to scale this technology large enough for consumer vehicles while keeping prices down, it could easily double the range of the farthest-driving EVs on the road today.

That's a big IF.
TL;DR: They haven't developed a means of making this scalable and able to be mass manufactured. Until they do, this is another "revolutionary" battery tech that may or may not actually be used due to cost of production. Most likely in the "not" category.

If you want to make EVs more popular, make them with Sodium-Ion batteries that are cheaper than ICE vehicles. They'll sell better as a result.

Hardly anybody needs an EV with more than 200 miles of range if they're plugging in each night. Most people's commute is round-trip sub-50 miles. "Range anxiety" is 95%+ of the time a "problem" that stupid people have for their theoretical future that never actually happens. Most people are impractical idiots.

The SATA controller on the motherboard. The thing you plug your SATA cable into.

chronicledmonocle ,

What exactly is your point? Don't vote for Biden but vote for Trump instead? How would that make this situation literally any better?

Joe Biden calls trans people “fabric of our nation” in Trans Day of Visibility proclamation ( www.lgbtqnation.com )

In commemoration of the upcoming Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV), President Joe Biden issued a statement praising trans people’s contributions to society and describing actions his administration has taken to counter transphobic bullying and extremism. Additionally, many members of Biden’s Department of Health and Human...

"I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive."

Romans 16:17-18

If only MAGA Republicans could read, they'd have seen this coming.

chronicledmonocle ,

I appreciate the efforts Biden is making here. I was looking forward to the $20k loan forgiveness for my wife's student loans, but the new IBR plans reduced my monthly payments by 85% and has them going to be forgiven entirely in a few years. That right there sealed my vote for him, even though he hit roadblocks to the original plan.

chronicledmonocle ,

Just deleted my account. I hardly used it anyway, so good job pushing me off the edge Glassdoor.

chronicledmonocle ,

The fact things are this close is amazingly disappointing in humanity as a whole.

On the one side, you have Trump who wants to be a dictator, actively hates anyone who isn't white and conervative, said he wants to kill his political opponents, tried to overthrow the government, had a 4 year presidency that was basically an episode of Jersey Shore everyday, and idolizes Putin/Hitler/etc.

And then there is Biden, who isn't super "exciting", old AF, and supports Israel too much for political reasons, but otherwise has done an alright job as president for 4 years.

How are the polls and the race even remotely this close? It's no wonder we can't do something like fix climate change as a society when people are this fracking stupid.

chronicledmonocle ,

I have a sister-in-law that thinks I'm crazy every time I say that the systematic sabotage of education is part of the plan to dumb down America and turn people into uneducated Republican voters.

chronicledmonocle ,

That's not everything, but it's a big part of it.

Sabotage of the education system
Systemic and hostile takeover of the Judicial system
Crowbaring Religious bigotry into government

There are more than one reason.

chronicledmonocle ,

Biden is an effective President brought down by poor PR and image in the eyes of voters.

chronicledmonocle ,

Congratulations to the KDE team. Looking like a great release.

chronicledmonocle ,

Or try voting. Or try electing representation. Or try owning firearms like the white folks.

Basically anything while trying to be black in America.

chronicledmonocle ,

I don't think it's a moderate, left, or right problem. More a "the current power structure will never support it" because it works for those in power now to their advantage.

chronicledmonocle ,

Yeah but FPTP is used for parliament in those countries, which means the party that chooses the president is elected via it.

Ranked Choice, STV, or Mixed Member Proportional Ranking are much better systems. I wish more countries used it.

chronicledmonocle ,

That's called MMPR and I wasn't aware Germany did that. That's a great way to ensure equal representation.

chronicledmonocle ,

Nothing stopping you from flying that un-American flag, dumbass......nothing says you can't fly a Confederate flag. It just means we all know you're a moron.
