Well, if you look into it, it's mostly the Aussies being used as extrajudicial kill teams for suspected terrorists. The direction of the units coming from American covert ops. In capitalism as inventory goes down prices go up. As we descend upon that small town and rent or buy what's there, prices go up.We need to instead lobby for legislation that heavily taxes investment properties. That will free the hundreds of thousands of homes that're empty. Also local housing initiatives where tax dollars go to subsidize the building of more houses. Look at the G.I. Bill after WW2 for a great example of this. But instead of veterans, anyone with income 90k or below gets a check to help with their first home. Of course we'd keep the GI Bill for veterans as well. This isn't a zero sum game.

I've been feeling uneasy about the privacy implications of using Lemmy and similar platforms. The ability for anyone to view your entire posting history feels to me like publicly sharing my browser history. In contrast, most other social media platforms allow you to limit your feed visibility to just friends or followers....

I think privacy and social media are inherently at odds. Social media is built around the concept of sharing personal metadata through memes, opinions and is generally the point of socializing. Your personal data is the currency of social media.

Bankruptcy without a lawyer, a permanent address and transportation to the courts is a serious hurdle. People rotating out of prison are already at a disadvantage. My point is they shouldn't be in debt when they leave prison in the first place. The whole point is that they paid their debt to society.

This isn't, oh shit I'm in over my head in a cornerstore, restaurant, family warehouse, what have you. It's very tone-deaf to not address the elephant in the room of these people entering society at a grave disadvantage.

Correct, so when I post my song I created to Funkwhale, it's then federated across the fediverse, living on other servers and able to be downloaded.

Let's say I use the wikimedia license and allow reproduction of my music as long as I'm credited.

Someone in the fediverse likes my song and they download it. Then use it in their licensed DRM enabled media and give me no credit.

Who then protects my license and attribution rights beside myself? Does this open up others in the fediverse who hosted my media and allowed download to suit? The courts that would hear the case are unlikely to provide a distinction between the user who stole my media and those hosting it.

What prevents Funkwhale from charging a fee for their streaming app and profiting from my song and cutting me out of profit share? Which is exactly what digital distributors do all the time.

How does Funkwhale prevent the upload and sharing of licensed music by unlicensed parties?

None of this is referenced in the documentation or ad copy on the site.

I've seen funkwhale posted here multiple times, and these questions are never addressed.
