This is absolutely shameful! New York has suffered so much from COVID, and COVID is not over. We should be normalizing and depoliticizing masks, not banning them.

Saying that covering faces allows protesters to have some level of anonymity to be more aggressive, to me more entitled to say what they want because they don’t fear repercussion in the same way. Would you support that endeavor? Governor Hochul: There was a ban on masks before the pandemic that you couldn't have face coverings that didn't serve a purpose. For example, a surgical mask for someone who is elderly or ill — the pandemic removed that from our State Law. It was repealed at the time, but I absolutely will go back and take a look at this and see whether it can be restored because it is frightening to people. You're sitting on a subway train and someone puts on a mask like this and comes in — you don't know if they're going to be committing a crime, they're going to have a gun, or whether they're just going to be threatening or intimidating you because you are Jewish, which is exactly what happened the other day. Absolutely unacceptable in the State of New York.

    @luckytran They are doing it because masks remind everyone that COVID is still here. That makes people want to hurry up with their shopping and go home, rather than lingering and spending more money. The robber barons don't like that, so they made it illegal.

    @wdlindsy Of course, just as they coached their Supreme Court justice candidates to say that Roe v Wade was "settled law". It was, until it wasn't. They will do the same with Griswold v. Ct., Lawrence v. Tx, Loving v. Va., and Brown v. Board. They are waiting until after the election to spring this on us.

A Change.org petition urging lawmakers to rethink the bill has already gotten nearly 3,700 signatures. The petition cites concerns about people who wear masks for medical reasons.

    NYC Mayor Eric Adams continues to encourage businesses to request customers to unmask. This is ableist, puts people's health at risk, and is NOT required by law.

    @luckytran This has nothing to do with preventing crime and everything to do with making people forget about COVID and get back to "business as [used to be] usual" at any cost.

    People wearing masks remind other people that COVID is still around. That makes us want to rush through our shopping and get out quickly, instead of lingering and buying more stuff. It made WFH a thing, and that is not going to go away. The robber barons don't like that. Their commercial real estate is tanking.

    @rbreich Unions need to be at the table when trade agreements are being worked out. That is what has been missing and has been the unions' downfall.

    The right to organize should be part of the deal. Let the unions become the international organizations that they always have aspired to be. Free trade does not have to be a race to the bottom. It all depends on who is at the table when the agreements are negotiated. If you're not at the table you're on the menu.
