676 Banned Books List

I couldn't find the list in a text copy-able format, so I OCR'd it and tried to do the best I could. I am missing a book somewhere, my count is 675, so I'm assuming I messed something up. Please feel welcome to take, copy, share, request edits, FTFY, as well as make sure these books are still in your library. I haven't read them...

Oh, and if you were wondering about the context, this is the list that a select few people have been using to enact several bans throughout the US. Example here.

No doubt. I can do that and probably should have, but I read an article about this list and any forums discussing the access to it only ever referred to one site with images as the only source. The articles occasionally indicated that the list was made public on social media but they never indicated when and where. So, more than anything, I just wanted to get the list into a copypasta format that others could use. I'm under a heavy work load at the moment, but once available I can throw a spreadsheet together with some sorting options.

but they will continue to come and go, regardless of our input

I'm not quite sure you understand the problem with climate change. It's not that "they" will come and go, it's that WE will only go. There's no "coming" back with any reasonable immediacy. Or were you arguing that the stones wouldn't be there for exhibition by the jellyfish that would be the only thing left living in the oceans?

Now, it is my opinion that when Brawndo finally pushes the climate over the tipping point and life as we know it takes its final breath, that natural selection will do what it has always done and though life will change, it will persist in some form. So were humans able to outlast this foreboding obstacle and humanity persists, then so be it, but I honestly doubt they'll give a shit about fucking stonehenge. If there were some life lessons from the past that only stonehenge can communicate, then it has obviously failed.

But, who will tell Robert Barnes, "good job"? Who will feed Owen Shroyer? Who will help David Knight back to bed? Who will change Buckley's diaper? Who will feed LeeAnn McAdoo's addiction to being sexually harassed in not-so-subtle and sweaty ways by a greasy human christmas ham?

My carnivore friends are massively more evangelical than my vegan friends. Just my experience I guess.

Was homeless at 17 for the better part of 2 years. Tried to kill myself with inhalants many times. Found out the service was taking in meat shields like they were going out of style. Watched thousands die in Iraq and still deal with the guilt and self-destructiveness today. It is getting better, good people found me and chose to love me.

There's a part of me that does not disagree with the comment, I honestly wanted to die in that place. But it's so disrespectful to say, and you nailed it.

I called his son dumb because choosing to join the military to fight in the Iraq invasion was dumb when he obviously didn't come from a poor family and thus didn't even need to do this due to a lack of job opportunities.

As you have demonstrated, anyone is susceptible to misunderstanding. It does not discriminate by class or privilege. People join for many reasons. I wanted to get a warm meal, warm bed, and die. But others from my meps felt that they had familial or generational obligations. Some wanted the career and had great options. It's a fantastic and debt free way of getting respectable credentials and high-speed to boot. But I don't know a single person who honestly believed they were supporting genocide or imperialism, what have you. There were a lot of dumb people, but they risked it for their own reasons in a way you never could or likely ever will. And I will always cry for those that gave it all. Some of us are dealing with our guilt and doing what we can to prepare the next generation for the pitfalls they face. So spit at us all you want. There's not thing one you can say that will make me loath myself more than I ever have. And I'm dealing with that too.

I hope you are never in a place that makes you tangibly consider these choices you so virulently despise. You are still someone's compatriot and you deserve that.

The US military's primary role is to protect corporate interests, to the misery of many, including those that serve that machine.

I'm not refuting this. I'm pointing out that this isn't remotely obvious to let alone the motivation for why people join. You are privileged enough to be aware of this. Not everyone has the luxury of your perspective.

😂 It's always fucking foxtrot. But it's also the only place you can get shit off the books. ⚖️

The article keeps referring to Jan 6, 2001. But you're right again, nobody cared.

Did I slide to a dimension where trump hasn't spent most of his adult life in business with Russian oligarchs? Is your response to hearing Pelosi's lucid musings anything other than "no titty fucking shit Sherlock"? Did trump seriously not have a giant money laundering casino for Russians named the Taj Mahal here???

I am going to enjoy this reality. 😊 Checks Wikipedia 🙄 Oh, nvm. I forgot that I already live in the dimension where a preponderance of evidence isn't enough to establish a preponderance of evidence. My bad.

For me, a few things keep me from sticking with it. The community used to be a problem but it's not as bad as it used to be. Seeking help online regarding anything related to network services are still rife with the "git gooder" useless fucks. Two months ago I was told, "you shouldn't be doing this if you need a guide." I was trying to deploy a Lemmy instance... Using the guide provided by Lemmy devs... That they recommended for beginners... FML with a curling iron...

Another big one for me is access to solutions. I have never encountered a problem with windows that I couldn't find a solution or at least an explanation for. But I frequently find issues with linux that I am apparently the first to ever experience.

And lastly, it seems like not using a terminal at all to do completely normal things is even remotely possible. Powershell allows all kinds of things that would be otherwise burdensome or impossible, but none of those are required for use. On the flip side, it feels like everything I want to do in Linux tends to require me to copypasta a terminal command, open the terminal, and run. Why? Why is there no "control panel" style settings tools? Why is every setting scattered to the .conf fucking wind? My kingdom for a distro that I don't have to nano my fucking way through.

Software compatibility??? That is a problem I would love to have when it comes to trying to switch OSs. That would mean that everything else is already working and only MS products are acting up. Also... who switches to Linux but still requires MS Office??? Why does this person exist? Lol

Anyway. Haven't tried the switch in a few years and it seems like things have changed a lot in that time comparatively to the preceding years, so I may be a bit out of touch. But that's why I quit last time. I would love to not need windows ever again. But my worst windows day is still better than my best Linux day.

And on windows, you can do all of this without touching the keyboard...

On-screen keyboard

Nice try Linus 😂

@ZMonster@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, I've started to feel a bit of that on windows. At least with MS deprecating things that people used, or constantly changing your settings with every update. I guess a terminal script is no different than a magic black box in the same way that a program or driver is. Hmm. Good point.

[Question] How to integrate sendgrid API into Lemmy Ansible installation?

I'm using the Lemmy ansible installation method. I've been trying to add sendgrid to the postfix section of the config.hjson file on my local machine. But where do I add the API key and username? I used port 587 but nothing works. Can anyone help walk me through how to integrate sendgrid into Lemmy-Ansible? Thanks!!...
