"They think they're too good for pizza because we're paying them too much!"

SpaceCowboy ,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

It is indeed. But atheists have a tendency to think it's fine for them to be hateful towards religious people because "they hate all religion". Logically hating more people makes someone even worse, but there's not all that much logic going on in the minds of some atheists. For some people, Atheism is just a cover for being hateful, in exactly the same way some people use Christianity (or any other religion) to provide cover for their hatred.

If the guy didn't say something about "deists," the comment would be identical to something an Islamophobic Christian might say. Religious bigotry from atheists is identical to bigotry coming from religious people.

I have actually gone back and posted some comments starting with "Dear people from the future..." on some issues after I figured it out because of this comic. I wonder if anyone has ever seen those and got the joke.

Wow it's almost like Kyle Rittenhouse might be a piece of shit.

Accused adulterer Trump who paid to keep Stormy Daniels affair secret professes ‘love’ for the Ten Commandments ( www.independent.co.uk )

“I LOVE THE TEN COMMANDMENTS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS, PRIVATE SCHOOLS, AND MANY OTHER PLACES, FOR THAT MATTER. READ IT — HOW CAN WE, AS A NATION, GO WRONG??? THIS MAY BE, IN FACT, THE FIRST MAJOR STEP IN THE REVIVAL OF RELIGION, WHICH IS DESPERATELY NEEDED, IN OUR COUNTRY. BRING BACK TTC!!! MAGA2024,” Trump wrote in the early...

Why wouldn't he love them? He keeps breaking them without repercussions. It's the kinds of laws Trump loves.

These propaganda memes are getting more and more bizarre. This is the "Promised Land" meme that from I can tell originated from a faked photo of a patch on an Israeli soldier a few weeks ago.

Israel simply doesn't have the capability to take that amount of territory, much less hold it. And see that blue on the Sinai peninsula? Israel actually controlled that in the past. They returned it to Egypt when they made peace in the 70s.

This is the silliest anti-Israel meme yet. Try harder next time.

US has been trying to prevent an Israeli-Hezbollah war. Even al Jazeera says this in the third sentence in the linked article.

Right now it's just some tough talk from both sides. It's possible for this to amount to something more than the normal levels of exchanging fire that's been going on since October 7, but it's doubtful.

Seems more likely Nasrallah just has to make some token effort to support Hamas to appease the rank and file. So he threatened Israel three days ago. Israel makes threats back now. Just another day in the Middle East.

Are posting boomer memes here now?

Those WWII tanks could get multiple direct hits on a modern tank and the modern tank would be fine. The modern tank would fire back once (while moving over rough terrain) and obliterate the WWII tank with a single hit. The modern tanks use more complex materials and technology because it makes them superior to older tanks in every way.

Just how technology works, boomers. More sophisticated materials aren't used for the hell of it. They're used because after a lot of testing they proved to be better.

If we're assuming that humanity will go extinct, then sure there's no point to stonehenge. But then there's also no point to a protest either.

If we're assuming humanity isn't going extinct, then there is a point to preserving stonehenge and there's also a point to having these protests.

Seems like there's a logic fail happening here where there's no point to preserving stone henge for the future but there is still a point to a protest about preserving things for the future.

SpaceCowboy ,

There's zero chance that protesting Stonehenge will improve the future, they're just rocks.

Protesting an oil refinery might have better odds tho.

Coke—and Dozens of Others—Pledged to Quit Russia. They’re Still There. ( www.bloomberg.com )

After Vladimir Putin’s troops surged over the Ukrainian border in February 2022, the Coca-Cola Co. was among the first multinationals to pledge it would quit Russia in protest. Aiming to avoid the inevitable headaches of complying with expected Western sanctions on the Kremlin, Coke asked its partners there to pull its cans...

There seems to be a correlation between Ass and Fuck for awhile. But then we see an upward trend of Shit following behind Fuck and Ass. Once we start seeing Shit become more pronounced, we see a temporary decrease in Fuck followed by a recovery and an large increase in Fuck while Ass doesn't see a corresponding increase.

What does it mean?

I feel like it should be the life time of the creator of the work provided that person is still getting a significant percentage of the royalties. Otherwise something like 20 years.

That way companies might be less likely to force artists to sign away all rights to their work. So like "hey this kid could live another 50 years, so lets make sure he gets his percentage so we can keep control longer."

Can't make any money off Winnie the Pooh content in China... for reasons.

SpaceCowboy ,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

Why would a copyright entering public domain cause a problem with your product? Public domain doesn't mean you can't use a work anymore, more the opposite really.

And they'd still get 20 years for a work made by a 90 year with a terminal illness.

That would be first degree murder, which is kinda illegal.

SpaceCowboy ,

What is it the activists wanted people to think? Did they consider their actions might lead people to turn against them instead of against the oil companies?

SpaceCowboy ,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

Yeah I don't know why they wouldn't block the entrance to an oil refinery. Some people would be unhappy about this especially the people that work there. But the general public could understand, who knows it could possibly slow production for a few days.

SpaceCowboy ,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

Why not fund raise and set up a lobby group and fund politicians to pass laws.

Do you think some kids are going to be able to buy the support of politicians by outbidding the oil companies?

SpaceCowboy ,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

Yeah because these people are making random attacks on landmarks instead of going after oil refineries and gas stations. Their strategy is confusing to the general public.

Targeting oil companies directly would force people to talk about the actual issue. "These radicals put orange dust on Stonehenge what are they trying to accomplish with that?" vs. "these radicals got an oil refinery shut down for a day, what are they trying to accomplish with that?" The former requires an abstract explanation (which isn't effective) while the latter has a very obvious answer to the point where most people won't even bother asking the question.

By TPUSA do you mean Turning Point USA, the organization that's funded by billionaires?

SpaceCowboy ,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

Both wrong.

It's just a process. Find evidence, make theories. Find more evidence, adjust theories or replace them.

People gotta stop injecting their religious beliefs about "the truth" or "socialism" or whatever into science. These are just your personal beliefs and science don't give a shit about any of that.

That's basically 90% of every car owner.

It's one of those things where people feel like they're going to take a road trip every weekend, but most people are just using their car to commute to and from work and maybe take one or two longer trips per year. The time saved by not having to stop at a gas station throughout the the year is less than the additional time taken at a fast charging station for the rare road trip.

SpaceCowboy ,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

I tend to agree. There's already too many firearms out there (more guns than people) so it won't be all that effective in the short term.

But I think it's more of a thing that will take generations for there to be a change. And yeah it's pandering for votes, but it's also about opening up conversation, which is a step in the direction of a cultural change. A cultural shift away from buying guns for paranoid reasons about protection from "those people" back towards guns being used for hobbies like hunting and target shooting won't be easy to accomplish. But gotta start somewhere.

He knows China doesn't have the capability to invade Taiwan, but needs to save face. So... the evil foreigners are trying to trick us, but I'm too smart to fall for their tricks!

Fascist propaganda 101, always blame the foreigners for everything.

SpaceCowboy ,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

Xi needs to keep people thinking he's the strongman that's protecting China from the evil foreigners. If he tries to invade Taiwan and fails (the most likely outcome) he appears weak and it's over for him.

SpaceCowboy , (edited )
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

Large scale ground invasions are generally a losing game.

Large scale amphibious assaults even moreso. I feel like people keep forgetting Taiwan is an island. Sure China has a massive army and could throw a lot of waves of soldiers in a straight up ground campaign, but with Taiwan it wouldn't be a straight up ground campaign.

So yeah their strat would have to be based around economy and politics for the time being. Sure they're improving their Navy, but it's probably be at least a decade (if ever) they could have successful military action on Taiwan other than just sabre rattling.

SpaceCowboy ,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

Seems like a nut.

Also he's not in office. It's kinda like getting upset if George Santos said something insane.

I get that people are working hard to find evidence for the "Israel = Nazis" narrative that's currently trending, but kinda scraping the bottom of the barrel aren't we?

SpaceCowboy ,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

You think people should be arrested for mentioning Nazis?

SpaceCowboy ,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

I see people constantly invoking the Nazis to make excuses for the actions of Hamas. The logic is "Israel is like Nazis therefore everything Hamas does it permissible." It's idiotic reasoning but it's commonplace here.

This guy is similarly idiotic. If you're outraged by what this guy is saying, look at the rationalizations people on here do everyday in support of Hamas. It's the same eye for an eye kind of thinking. "Other side is Nazis, therefore we should do horrible things!"

SpaceCowboy ,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

I guess you just pretend not to see comments all over Lemmy expressing support for Hamas?

SpaceCowboy ,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

Here you are claiming antisemitism isn't a problem in the same sentence where you're implying all Jews are just like the worst one you can find.

SpaceCowboy ,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

I'm known? Cool!

See the difference between you and I is that I attribute the actions on October 7 to Hamas, not the Palestinian people. But you see any Israeli doing something wrong you use it to paint everyone in Israel as being that way.

You can split hairs about whether that's antisemitism, but I don't care. When you see one person of an ethnicity and/or religious group doing something wrong and then go on to say "they" do things like that, you're showing what kind of person you are.

SpaceCowboy ,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

Doesn't mean there isn't support for Hamas abounds.

They seem like immature TikTok kids from what I can tell, but they're around.

SpaceCowboy ,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

If that's the case, they obviously don't want to hire black people.

SpaceCowboy ,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

A group of genocidal terrorists is better than a democracy by a wide margin?

SpaceCowboy ,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

Hamas went into villages and murdered everyone they could find. They weren't targeting military and some civilians being in the wrong place at the wrong time. They planned an attack to murder as many civilians as they could and executed that plan.

Before that for about a decade and a half they've been firing rockets towards population centers. It's only because Israel spent billions of dollars to protect their civilian population that Hamas hasn't been able to kill more civilians. And what do Hams spend their money on? Palaces in Qatar and tunnels under Gaza to keep themselves safe while they leave their civilian population at the mercy of an army they claim to be committing genocide.

SpaceCowboy ,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

When people try to "both sides" genocide in an attempt to normalize it in an effort to rationalize the horrific acts committed by their side, then yeah I don't give a lot of leeway.

SpaceCowboy ,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

Ah yes, the far right tactic of claiming that anyone that recognizes the existence of racism is a racist.

SpaceCowboy ,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

What are you talking about? You need to chill, you're not even making any sense now.

SpaceCowboy ,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

Prominent people in BLM made it clear that they didn't condone the violence being done by a small group of people.

The Palestinian protests can't denounce Hamas, a group that murdered over a thousand people in the most brutal ways imaginable. Which is far beyond some looting that occurred during the BLM protests. While prominent people in BLM denounced the looting, we hear basically nothing about people in Palestinian protests denouncing Hamas.

Do you really think that looting is the same thing as massacring villages? If so, you may have lost perspective.

SpaceCowboy ,
@SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca avatar

I think you're missing the point. Looting isn't comparable to massacring villages and even then, prominent voices in the BLM movement denounced the looting.

That isn't happening with Palestinian protests.

Based on nothing but this article.

I've seen many images of people cosplaying as Hamas at protests. It's fairly commonplace. This is not an isolated incident.
