I'll just use invidious, it's a bit of a chore to use, but it's increasingly worth it.

Photoshop has unmatched tools to get work done 15 to 30 times faster than Gimp. This does not apply to everything of course and in some niche stuff Gimp's even faster. However what I use Photoshop for, such as removing unwanted distractions like trash cans, trash, overhead electric cables and such Gimp is like 30 years behind. It's not realistic that someone would spend many minutes just selecting hair outline in Gimp.

Ultimately developing these tools has cost evil Adobe many millions of dollars. 1-3 extremely talented and enthusiastic programmers cannot compete with this.
Then again in the near future we will either not need Photoshop anymore, or open source projects like Gimp or a more open minded fork could use Ai generated code to develop similar automated tools.

Hungary is not unique, Orban is just very loud. There are several countries in the EU where getting an Orban voted in is a real danger & it just happened in Slovakia as well.

This is the equivalent of kicking the US out of everything if they voted Trump..

Lasers have been used to shoot down satellites before, by both the US and China. Those shows were not really about satellites, they were about hitting long range targets moving at above “mach 10”.

Laser systems are far more effective in space than on the ground. (still plenty effective, but you need very powerful lasers to destroy a spread of warheads on time)

My take is that on an Arch system I can install anything and I have btrfs snapshots to roll back forkups. I don't need this added layer of complexity in its current form. If it offered proper and easily configurable sandboxing I would certainly think about it.

(Then again I have a Deb laptop and perhaps I will try this out for Pyradio)

What non-FOSS software are you using that you wish you could replace?

For me its honestly a ton of my work software (digital forensics), shit is too niche to be replaced by good FOSS options. Cellebrite, Magnet Axiom, etc. Autopsy is great and free and has a linux version but it simply cannot get the same level of data without a pretty nutty level of custom code....

Well, Apple intentionally slowed those devices down to make the users update, instead of using an insecure device, that would've provided a good experience otherwise.

And these days Apple is retiring devices arbitrarily for profits too. For example this year they are retiring the Iphone 8, which has better hardware, than the ipad 2018 that is still being supported...
